Job Description:

Senior Project Accountant

Parsons is looking for a Senior Project Accountant to join our team! In this role, you will manage end-to-end project SPV accounting and financial reporting, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial information to support project, shareholder, and governance requirements.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing end-to-end accounting for all project SPVs, including maintenance of the general ledger, sub-ledgers, chart of accounts, and accounting policies aligned with Group requirements.
  • Overseeing intercompany accounting and reconciliations between SPVs, parent entities, and related parties, ensuring balances are fully supported, reconciled, and agreed.
  • Preparing monthly management accounts and annual financial statements for SPVs, including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, and notes to the accounts.
  • Coordinating with external auditors for SPV audits and ensuring timely issuance of audited financial statements.
  • Ensuring strong financial governance and internal controls are established, documented, and maintained for SPVs.
  • Monitoring compliance with SPV constitutional documents, shareholder agreements, and financing agreements from a financial perspective.
  • Identifying and proactively highlighting financial, compliance, and reporting risks related to SPV operations and project activities, and recommending mitigating actions.
  • Coordinating with Tax on SPV tax matters, including VAT, withholding tax, corporate income tax, and transfer pricing considerations.
  • Driving process standardization and efficiency improvements across SPV accounting and reporting activities.
  • Maintaining comprehensive financial documentation and accounting position papers for key judgments, estimates, and complex transactions.
  • Supporting automation and system enhancements to improve reporting accuracy, robustness, and turnaround time.
  • Ensuring that month-end, half-yearly, and year-end closing activities are delivered in line with established guidelines and procedures, taking the lead on complex or non‑routine/ad hoc items and providing expert recommendations and solutions.
  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Ministry of Finance and other authorities) to obtain complex and sensitive financial information and providing advice and guidance on commercial and stakeholder agreements to support billings, cash calls, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Coordinating with Cost Control, Development, Accounting, and Treasury teams to ensure that related activities (close-outs and shareholder reporting) reflect the true financial position at each reporting period.
  • Reviewing and preparing internal and external reports and analyzing direct and allocated project and development management/operating costs, resolving any discrepancies identified.
  • Performing funding (including funding income), project, and development management/operating cost reconciliations for periodic review by relevant Department Directors and following up on agreed actions.
  • Reviewing project accruals and other accounting adjustment entries and addressing queries from Controls & Budget teams, explaining significant variances against budget.
  • Coordinating the timely preparation of funding/cash calls for projects, including analysis of actual cash expenditures vs. cash calls to optimize cash balances.

What Required Skills You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Professional accounting certification such as ACCA, CA, CPA, or CMA.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable experience in project accounting or general ledger accounting.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Middle East.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring

  • Strong financial knowledge across areas including compilation, consolidation, and financial analysis.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and business/ERP software.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English; Arabic language skills are an advantage.
  • Ability to perform other duties and responsibilities as needed and to determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
