Senior Project Manager - Drainage ( Design Delivery)
Doha, Qatar
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Project Manager - Drainage to lead and manage large scale drainage design projects (or several small/medium projects) with a focus on stormwater and groundwater systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in drainage design, particularly within Qatar, and a deep understanding of local codes, standards, and stakeholder requirements. Proficiency in InfoWorks ICM modeling software is essential for this role.
The Senior Project Manager will provide direction and management for projects, ensuring on-schedule completion within or below budget in accordance with contractual obligations. This role involves scope development, scope management, and commercial performance of the project to meet goals and objectives. The candidate should be familiar with the integration of engineering/technical aspects, as well as procurement and construction activities. This position typically manages projects up to $50 million in total installed cost.
What You'll Be Doing:
Project Leadership: Lead and manage drainage design projects, ensuring timely delivery, quality, and compliance with project requirements. Plans and defines program goals and devises methods to accomplish them.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the Company representative with the client and selected subcontractors during program execution. Negotiate changes to the scope of work with the client and key subcontractors. Collaborate with local stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, to secure approvals and ensure designs meet all necessary requirements.
Technical Expertise: Develop and review stormwater and groundwater drainage designs, ensuring alignment with local Qatar codes, standards, and best practices. Provide technical expertise in drainage modeling using InfoWorks ICM, including model development, calibration, and analysis.
Project Planning and Execution: Oversee the establishment of the Project Execution Plan, Health and Safety Plan, Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan, and other required documents. Mobilize company resources to create project teams capable of completing effective, quality work.
Team Management: Assign responsibilities to key subordinates, assess their qualifications, and provide input to performance reviews and development plans. Mentor and guide junior engineers and project staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Budget and Schedule Management: Work with other managers, project engineers, and discipline leads to develop budgets, schedules, and plans for the various elements of a project. Ensure that the project meets or exceeds goals established in these plans.
Risk and Change Management: Devise and execute action plans to rectify potential cost overruns or delays, or to accommodate significant changes to the scope of work. Maintain current and timely change orders and advise the client and company management of any such changes.
Quality Assurance: Promote technical and commercial excellence on the project through the application of Quality Assurance processes. Monitor and report to management on the progress of all project activities, including significant milestones and any conditions that could affect project cost or schedule.
Negotiate changes to the scope of work with clients and subcontractors.
Participate in negotiations with regulatory agencies and in public meetings in support of clients.
Monitor draft and final deliverables for adherence to program requirements.
Establish weekly meetings to review project status and formulate action items.
Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
What Required Skills You'll Bring :
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical field (Master’s degree preferred).
Minimum of 12-15+ years of related work experience, with at least 10 years in drainage design, focusing on stormwater and groundwater systems.
Proven experience working on drainage projects with a solid understanding of local codes, standards, and stakeholder processes.
Proficiency in InfoWorks ICM modeling software, including hands-on experience in model development and analysis.
Professional registration (CEng or local country equivalent) is required.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring :
Proven ability to perform in a management capacity, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, and drainage system design principles.
Demonstrated project management skills, including budget and schedule management, risk assessment, and resource allocation.
Familiarity with Qatar’s regulatory framework and key stakeholders involved in drainage design approvals.
Experience in sustainable drainage solutions and green infrastructure design is a plus.
Knowledgeable of current technology and how it can be effectively utilized on the project.
