Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Project Engineer - Water / Wet Utilities to join our team! In this role you will get to manage the planning, design, and execution of water and wastewater projects, ensuring that they meet regulatory standards and are completed on time and within budget.
The role requires strong leadership, project management skills, and technical expertise in water utility infrastructure. This individual will play a pivotal role in the success of critical water and wet utilities projects, promoting sustainable practices and maintaining a focus on high-quality project delivery.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Project Planning and Design:
Lead the design, planning, and development of water and wet utility systems, ensuring they meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are accurately designed and scoped.
Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and risk analysis to determine the most effective solutions for projects.
Project Execution and Management:
Oversee the implementation of projects, managing project timelines, resources, and budgets.
Ensure that construction, operation, and maintenance of water and wet utilities are carried out according to plans and specifications.
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely.
Compliance and Regulatory Requirements:
Ensure all water and wet utilities projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and safety standards.
Obtain necessary permits and approvals from relevant authorities to begin project execution.
Monitor project adherence to environmental and quality standards to mitigate risks and liabilities.
Cost Control and Budget Management:
Develop project budgets, including cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment.
Track and control project costs throughout the lifecycle, ensuring that any variations from the budget are addressed.
Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
Manage and guide project teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across all levels.
Provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members.
Foster a collaborative work environment that encourages innovation and problem-solving.
Quality Assurance and Control:
Ensure high standards of quality control are implemented during design, construction, and maintenance phases.
Conduct inspections, testing, and reviews to ensure all project components meet the required standards and specifications.
Address and resolve any quality-related issues that arise during project execution.
Stakeholder Communication and Reporting:
Provide regular project status updates to senior management, clients, and other stakeholders.
Prepare and present reports detailing project progress, challenges, and potential risks.
Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring that their needs and expectations are met.
Risk Management:
Identify potential project risks related to design, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Develop risk mitigation strategies to address any challenges or delays that may arise during the project lifecycle.
Ensure that safety protocols are strictly followed to minimize health and safety risks on-site.
Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship:
Ensure projects incorporate sustainable practices and minimize environmental impacts where possible.
Advise on the use of energy-efficient systems and technologies that align with environmental sustainability goals.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, PE) are preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in water/wet utilities engineering, with a focus on project management.
Proven track record in managing the planning, design, and execution of water and wastewater systems or similar infrastructure projects.
Experience in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Skills & Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of water treatment, wastewater systems, and wet utilities infrastructure.
Proficiency with engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, EPANET).
Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations related to water/wastewater systems.
Excellent project management skills with experience in handling multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:
Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or PE (Professional Engineer).
Experience with sustainable water and wastewater management practices.
Knowledge of international water and wastewater standards and regulations.
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and international stakeholders.
Familiarity with GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and hydraulic modeling tools.
Ability to adapt to fast-changing project requirements and environments.
