Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team! In this role you will get to oversee and ensure the safety and well-being of employees and contractors in the workplace.

This role involves the development and enforcement of safety programs, conducting safety audits, training employees on safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, a deep understanding of health and safety regulations, and a passion for creating a safe working environment for all team members.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Health and Safety Program Development:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures that align with regulatory requirements and company standards.

  • Review and update safety policies regularly to reflect changes in laws and best practices.

  • Create safety training programs to ensure that all employees are aware of safety protocols and understand how to apply them on the job.

Safety Inspections and Audits:

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments across various departments to identify potential hazards.

  • Perform routine audits and safety checks of equipment, facilities, and processes to ensure compliance with local and federal safety regulations.

  • Document findings and report any safety violations or risks to management, offering recommendations for corrective actions.

Incident Investigation and Reporting:

  • Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses, determining the root cause and reporting findings to management.

  • Maintain accurate records of all incidents, accidents, and safety violations, ensuring all required documentation is complete and in compliance with safety regulations.

  • Develop and implement corrective action plans to prevent the recurrence of incidents.

Safety Training and Awareness:

  • Conduct safety orientation and training for new hires, contractors, and other staff members on safety practices and procedures.

  • Organize periodic refresher courses and workshops to ensure ongoing safety education.

  • Create educational materials and distribute them to staff to raise awareness of health and safety issues.

Compliance with Regulations:

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and other applicable health and safety regulations.

  • Keep up to date with changes in local, state, and federal regulations related to workplace safety and ensure the organization remains compliant.

  • Prepare for and coordinate inspections from regulatory bodies, assisting in corrective actions as necessary.

Emergency Preparedness and Response:

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios (fire, medical emergencies, natural disasters, etc.).

  • Ensure that all employees are familiar with emergency procedures and participate in drills.

  • Maintain first-aid supplies and equipment, ensuring that they are readily available and in proper working condition.

Data Tracking and Reporting:

  • Track and report health and safety performance metrics, including incidents, injuries, and safety audits.

  • Prepare and present reports on safety performance, compliance, and areas for improvement to management.

  • Analyze trends in incidents and accidents and propose solutions to improve safety culture and reduce risks.

Safety Equipment and Resources Management:

  • Ensure that the organization has the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety tools available for employees.

  • Oversee the regular inspection and maintenance of safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and protective gear.

  • Assist in sourcing and purchasing necessary safety equipment and materials.

Collaboration with Departments:

  • Work closely with management, human resources, and department heads to address safety concerns and implement solutions.

  • Collaborate with external agencies, safety consultants, and vendors to stay current on safety regulations and best practices.

  • Encourage a safety-conscious culture across all levels of the organization, promoting employee involvement in safety initiatives.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Certifications like NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent are highly preferred.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in health and safety coordination or a similar role, preferably in an industrial, construction, or manufacturing setting.

    • Proven experience with safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigation.

    • Experience with safety training and program development.

  • Skills & Knowledge:

    • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety management systems, and environmental health and safety laws.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of the organization and external regulatory bodies.

    • Strong problem-solving abilities to address safety hazards and find effective solutions.

    • Attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation skills.

    • Proficiency with safety management software and reporting tools.

What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:

  • Certifications: OSHA 30-hour or 40-hour, NEBOSH, or equivalent safety certification.

  • Experience with Incident Management Systems (IMS): Familiarity with tools and software used to track and report workplace incidents.

  • Project Management: Experience with managing safety-related projects, including implementation of new safety programs or updates to existing processes.

  • Knowledge of First Aid and CPR: Certification in first aid and CPR, with the ability to provide first response in emergencies.
