Job Description:

Senior Tunnel Engineer
Abu Dhabi

Parsons is seeking a Senior Tunnel Engineer in Abu Dhabi to lead design and construction of a critical tunnel and causeway on the Mid Island Parkway (Phase 1) project linking Saadiyat and Umm Yifeenah islands. This major design-build highway program includes a cut-and-cover tunnel crossing the Khor Laffan Channel. It is a transformative infrastructure initiative . In this role you will apply Parsons’ extensive technical expertise to ensure the tunnel work meets all project and safety requirements, while gaining opportunities for professional growth.

What you'll be doing:

• Lead Tunnel Construction: Lead and supervise complex tunnel and causeway construction activities, including excavation, installation of ground support/shoring systems, dewatering and waterproofing schemes, and final lining, ensuring all work meets design specifications and safety protocols.

• Technical Review: Conduct engineering reviews of contractor and supplier design submissions (excavation methods, support systems, waterproofing ,shop drawings, material submittals and structural details) to support construction.  

• Coordination: Collaborate closely with client, regulatory authorities, and multidisciplinary teams (geotechnical, structural, environmental, etc.) to resolve design and construction issues. Ensure alignment of all designs with contract requirements and international standards

• Leadership & QA/QC: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and field staff. Oversee quality assurance/quality control processes and performance of tunnel systems, and ensure that safety, environmental and quality goals are achieved.

• Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

What required skills you'll bring:

• Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil or Structural Engineering and a minimum of 15 years of experience on large-scale infrastructure projects, with significant responsibility for tunnel engineering. Proven track record in construction of cut and cover tunnels.

• Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of underground construction methods and support systems including temporary shoring/retaining structures, and experience with dewatering strategies and tunnel waterproofing systems. Strong geotechnical background to integrate soil/rock behavior into tunnel construction.

• Analytical & Communication Skills: Excellent problem-solving and project-management abilities. Strong verbal and written English communication skills are critical , candidates must be able to demonstrate ability to lead teams, manage priorities and deliver complex projects on time.

• Professional Credentials: Experience in the Gulf region (especially UAE) and familiarity with local permitting and construction practices will be a strong advantage.
