Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Systems Specialist - Technical to join our team! In this role you will complete a wide variety of difficult engineering assignments, applying engineering techniques and analyses within the aspects of communication systems engineering for the project.
You will be a fully qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of most communications engineering theories and practices. Additionally, you will establish communication and rapport with project counterparts (internal and external) to ensure their participation in project technical meetings and approval of contractor documents, as required by client requirements.
Some assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/ CAD (computer aided design) applications. Willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site locations, is expected. Under the direction of the Systems Integration Manager, the Engineer will support the construction supervision team, specifically related to information and communication technologies as applied to airport infrastructure works.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Performs complex engineering tasks and particularly important engineering work efficiently and accurately.
- Supervises the installation, configuration, monitoring and support of the information and communications network and data center infrastructure.
- Responsible for reviewing technical specifications for IT Telecom & Server rooms (possibly Data Centers), such as room dimension, power, cooling, HVAC, fire suppression system, regular and emergency lighting requirement, horizontal or vertical backbone cablings for ethernet, fiber optic or special cables used in ELV systems.
- Provides technical support to the project in the area of automation engineering with respect to systems integration and associated communications architecture related to:
o Documentation review
o PLCs Programmable logic control
o SCADA Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition
o BMS Building Management System
o DCS Distributed Control System
o Installation supervision
o Testing/Calibration/Analysis - Responsible for reviewing technical drawings and specifications for communication system backbone and network topology.
- Prepares and/or reviews standard communication systems engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs.
- Prepares and issues communication systems specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.
- Prepares detailed requisitions for equipment and materials.
- Reviews subcontractor and supplier drawing submittals and performs technical bid analyses.
- Coordinates review of Quality Plans with project QA/QC, providing review of technical bid evaluations to ensure compliance of recommended vendor/ fabricator to project specification requirements.
- Assists the Systems Integration Manager with the various aspects of integration of engineering, design, scheduling, purchasing, construction, and start-up requirements of the project, in accordance with contractual obligations.
- Responsible for the technical excellence of the communication systems engineering portion of the project across all disciplines, ensuring client criteria and scope are met.
- Expedites distribution of action items following discussions/meetings with the client.
- Provides coordination, direction, and comments on contractor deliverables in the areas of communication systems engineering.
- Ensures that contractor deliverables provide constructable, operable, maintainable and safe designs in accordance with approved project specifications and the best accepted standards in the industry.
- Oversees pre-commissioning tests, as well as commissioning tests in coordination with the testing and commissioning team, to confirm the system is ready for handover.
- Assists the Systems Integration Manager and ORAT Manager to define the required migration plans, steps, procedure, constraints, risks, business continuity plan for failover and all the necessary details for systems migration to the appropriate operations center.
- Ability to manage a communication systems project from inception through completion, including defining the problem, establishing the work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, and reporting the work status.
- Extracts engineering information from CAD drawings.
- Frequently interfaces with other Engineering disciplines as well as other departments.
- Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.
- Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications engineering, electrical/ electronics engineering, or equivalent from a recognized university is required.
- 10+ years of overall engineering experience, with a minimum of 7 years related systems work experience preferably in aviation or major infrastructure construction projects.
- Fundamental understanding of design and construction principles and application of ICAO/ FAA standards and methods is required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials science, and engineering principles.
- Capable of adapting to demanding project conditions.
- Effective oral and written communication skills. Computer literate.
