Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team! In this role you will get to oversee the development, implementation, and enforcement of health and safety policies and procedures. You will play a key role in identifying hazards, conducting risk assessments, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting safety awareness throughout the organization.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Health and Safety Program Management:
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety programs, ensuring compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs, making improvements as necessary.
Ensure that safety policies and procedures are aligned with industry best practices and company goals.
Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification:
Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace and recommend mitigation strategies.
Lead workplace safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
Collaborate with departments to develop and implement strategies for minimizing workplace hazards.
Safety Training and Awareness:
Design and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels of the organization to ensure they understand safety protocols, emergency procedures, and best practices.
Foster a culture of safety awareness by conducting regular safety meetings, workshops, and initiatives to keep safety top of mind.
Provide guidance on the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure staff are well-equipped to carry out their tasks safely.
Incident Reporting and Investigation:
Oversee the reporting and documentation of workplace injuries, accidents, and near-misses, ensuring they are properly recorded and investigated.
Lead the investigation of accidents or incidents to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Prepare detailed incident reports and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders, including management.
Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory health and safety requirements.
Maintain up-to-date records and reports required for health and safety compliance, including environmental monitoring and safety audits.
Liaise with external regulatory agencies and inspectors, ensuring all compliance documentation is complete and up to date.
Emergency Preparedness and Response:
Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation plans, fire drills, and first aid procedures.
Coordinate and oversee emergency drills and simulations to ensure preparedness in the event of an emergency.
Act as a key point of contact during emergencies, providing guidance and direction to employees as needed.
Health and Safety Improvements:
Continuously assess health and safety performance and recommend improvements to practices, processes, and equipment.
Promote continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing workplace safety, reducing risks, and ensuring employee well-being.
Collaborate with management and other departments to integrate health and safety considerations into company-wide initiatives.
Leadership and Team Collaboration:
Lead and mentor the health and safety team, providing guidance, training, and support to junior safety coordinators and staff.
Collaborate with senior management to align health and safety goals with organizational objectives.
Serve as the main point of contact for health and safety-related concerns within the organization.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. Certification such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or NEBOSH is highly desirable.
Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in health and safety management, with a proven track record of implementing and managing safety programs in an industrial or corporate setting.
Experience in risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance audits.
Skills & Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations, including OSHA standards, EPA guidelines, and relevant local safety regulations.
Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment techniques, and safety program development.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to analyze complex safety issues, identify solutions, and implement corrective actions.
Proficiency with safety management software and MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:
Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar.
Experience with environmental health and safety (EHS) systems and reporting.
Knowledge of emergency response planning, accident investigation, and root cause analysis.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in mentoring and developing safety teams.
Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels, fostering a culture of safety and compliance.
