We harness the power of innovation so that you can change the world and help our customers solve their most complex challenges

Job Description:
Join Our Team: Senior Engineer – Roads & Highways (Greater Toronto Area)
Parsons is seeking a Senior Engineer – Roads and Highways to support our growing portfolio of infrastructure projects across the Greater Toronto Area. We've been building a better Canada since 1964 — and now, we’re inviting you to be part of that legacy.
Working at Parsons means joining a global leader recognized for delivering award-winning infrastructure programs and pioneering innovative technologies that shape the future of transportation. Here, you’ll find more than just a job — you’ll discover a place where your contributions are valued, your growth is supported, and your ideas help drive success.
What You’ll Be Doing:
You will play a Senior Engineer role in the design and delivery of municipal roads and highways projects — coordinating multidisciplinary teams, providing technical direction, and supporting project success from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure the technical excellence of engineering functions across projects, including coordination of technical disciplines, development of project alternatives, and preliminary/final design.
Design roadway infrastructure including horizontal and vertical alignments, super-elevation diagrams, ramps, interchanges, and roadway apertures.
Develop detailed construction elements, including detour plans, staging concepts, and temporary conditions, with consideration for all modes of transportation.
Incorporate active transportation facilities—such as sidewalks, multi-use paths, cycling lanes, and crossings—into the design in accordance with applicable standards and best practices.
Perform quantity take-offs and prepare cost estimates to support project planning and budgeting.
Lead and mentor Associate Engineers, providing direction, technical oversight, and support to design teams and junior staff.
Coordinate closely with interdisciplinary technical personnel and the broader project team to ensure cohesive, high-quality deliverables.
Support Project Managers in the execution of deliverables and contribute to schedule adherence and quality control.
Ensure all designs comply with client requirements, project scope, and applicable provincial and municipal standards.
Assist in preparing technical reports, presentations, and documentation for clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
Gather, review, and distribute technical and contractual information to relevant project disciplines.
Guide staff in the interpretation and application of engineering standards including TAC, OTM, AASHTO, OPSD, OPSS, and guidelines from municipalities across the Greater Toronto Area (e.g., City of Toronto, City of Mississauga, City of Vaughan, and City of Brampton) as well as Metrolinx design standards and requirements.
Utilize design and collaboration software such as Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and ProjectWise.
Perform corridor modeling using assemblies and templates in Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads Designer.
Engage directly with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities throughout the project lifecycle to ensure alignment with expectations and successful delivery.
May oversee scope development, scope management, and commercial performance to meet overall project goals and objectives.
What You Bring:
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
8+ years of experience in roads and highways engineering, including MTO and/or municipal projects.
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) is a must, preferably with PEO.
Proven track record leading roadway design projects and teams within Greater Toronto Area is preferred.
In-depth knowledge of transportation engineering standards and practices.
Proficiency in design software (Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, etc.).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience on Metrolinx projects is preferred.
Experience mentoring junior staff and collaborating with diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
