Job Description:
Parsons is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Senior AutoCAD Operator to join our Engineering Team. The role is responsible for producing, coordinating, and overseeing accurate CAD drawings to support multiple design projects across the organization.
This position works closely with engineers and designers to prepare design drawings, layouts, details, and as-built documentation in line with project requirements, standards, client specifications, and applicable codes. The Senior AutoCAD Operator will also supervise and mentor CAD staff, ensuring consistent CAD standards and high-quality deliverables.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Supervise, coordinate, and mentor CAD Operators, including planning and distributing CAD work to meet quality and schedule requirements.
Prepare and develop complex and detailed CAD drawings for multiple design projects, including plans, sections, elevations, profiles, layouts, and details.
Translate design concepts, sketches, calculations, and markups from engineers and designers into accurate CAD drawings and 3D models, where applicable.
Review, check, and update drawings based on engineers’ and architects’ comments, ensuring all revisions are correctly incorporated and documented.
Ensure CAD standards, file structures, naming conventions, layers, and presentation are consistently applied across all projects.
Support design development, tender documentation, construction drawings, and as-built deliverables.
Perform complex or urgent CAD tasks to support project deadlines and resolve coordination issues.
Assist in developing and maintaining CAD manuals, templates, and standard details.
Conduct quality checks on drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications.
Provide guidance and on-the-job training to junior CAD staff.
Coordinate with other departments and disciplines to ensure proper design coordination.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring:
Diploma / Associate degree in Drafting, or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Technology, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in a busy CAD environment, preferably in engineering and multi-project design.
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and 3D for design works.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, calculations, design instructions, and technical specifications.
Proven experience producing detailed design and engineering drawings.
Experience supervising or leading a CAD team, including workload planning and review of deliverables.
Solid understanding of drawing standards, scales, dimensioning, detailing, and plotting.
Ability to revise and update drawings accurately with proper version control.
Strong attention to detail, high level of accuracy, and commitment to quality.
Ability to manage multiple design projects and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
Good communication and coordination skills.
What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:
Proven CAD experience in multi-project engineering and design environments.
Experience with additional CAD/BIM tools such as Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, or similar.
Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and design guidelines.
Familiarity with CAD standards, symbol libraries, and standard details.
Experience creating and maintaining CAD templates, blocks, and libraries.
Ability to support basic 3D visualization or coordination models.
Strong organizational skills and ability to improve CAD workflows and best practices.
Detail-oriented with the ability to identify inconsistencies and coordination issues in drawings.
