Job Description:
Material Engineer
Abu Dhabi, UAE
What You'll Be Doing:
Review the contractor's material submittals and obtain the required approvals according to applicable standards and project specifications.
Serve as the focal point for the scheduling and control of construction materials and equipment at the job site.
Conduct inspections to determine if work has been done in accordance with contract specifications.
Coordinate work of subconsultants for material testing.
Maintain office files related to the project, material inspections, and write daily diaries.
Prepare daily reports and other documentation as required by the contract.
Verify that only approved materials are incorporated into the work.
Ensure all materials comply with relevant authorities' approval systems such as IMAS, IDAS, and similar.
Recognize potential conflicts, issues, and problems with construction materials, and report to the supervisor with proposed solutions.
Collect, review, and file certificates of compliance, MSDS, inspection tags, and other information relevant to the materials used.
Provide technical guidance to lower-level staff and/or the contractor.
Participate in the development of job safety practices and the preparation of safety reports.
Participate in the development of quality control plans, reports, and procedures.
Perform math calculations to prepare engineering calculations, graphs, and charts if necessary.
Observe, check, and record that work execution is in accordance with approved methods.
Check that delivered materials are as approved and properly stored.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
University BSc Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 6 years of engineering experience and, depending on the assignment, a minimum of 5 years of experience in specific roads and infrastructure works.
Experience in the construction of landscape projects and public parks projects at domestic locations.
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications and be thoroughly familiar with construction-related processes related to the area of assignment.
Knowledge of English grammar and composition, with the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Must be registered as practicing engineers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi or have an equivalency certificate.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
Ability to comply with a multitude of requirements applicable to the project based on client and industry standards.
Ability to recognize hazardous work conditions and take action if necessary.
Good judgment and ability to work with others.
Experience working within a multi-discipline team environment.
