Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an Architecture Specialist to join our team.

The Local Makkah Architecture Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring that the architectural designs and developments within the project reflect the cultural, historical, and religious significance of Makkah. The specialist will provide expert guidance on incorporating traditional Makkah architectural elements into modern high-rise developments while maintaining compliance with Islamic principles and local regulations. This position is reserved for a Saudi national with deep knowledge of Makkah’s architectural heritage and cultural context.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Provide expert input on the integration of traditional Makkah architectural styles into the project’s design and development.

  • Act as a cultural ambassador, bridging the gap between international design teams and local stakeholders.

  • Promote sustainable architectural practices that align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals.

  • Recommend innovative design solutions that enhance functionality while preserving cultural authenticity.

  • Provide training and workshops for project teams on Makkah’s architectural heritage and cultural significance.

  • Share knowledge and insights to ensure all team members understand the importance of culturally sensitive design.

  • Advise on the inclusion of design elements that enhance the spiritual experience for pilgrims and visitors, such as prayer areas, ablution facilities, and culturally appropriate public spaces.

  • Identify and preserve key architectural and cultural elements unique to Makkah’s heritage.

  • Provide recommendations for incorporating historical references and motifs into the project’s design.

  • Collaborate with architects, urban planners, and designers to create innovative solutions that respect Makkah’s heritage while meeting modern development needs.

  • Ensure that all designs respect Islamic principles and cultural norms, particularly in proximity to the Holy Haram.

  • Ensure that all architectural designs comply with local building codes, zoning regulations, and guidelines set by relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

  • Ensure that all architectural elements align with the cultural and religious significance of the Holy City.

  • Liaise with government agencies and religious institutions to secure necessary approvals for architectural plans.

  • Work closely with local community leaders, historians, and cultural experts to ensure the project reflects the identity and values of Makkah.

What Required Skills /  Qualifications You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Urban Design, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Architecture or Heritage Conservation is preferred.

  • Minimum 12 years of experience with Min. 6 years in KSA in architectural design, with a focus on culturally significant projects.

  • Proven expertise in Makkah’s architectural heritage and Islamic design principles.

  • Experience working on large-scale urban development or hospitality projects is a plus

  • Strong knowledge of traditional Makkah architectural styles and Islamic architectural principles.

  • Proficiency in architectural design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp).

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to balance cultural authenticity with modern design and functionality.

  • Deep understanding of Makkah’s cultural and religious context.

  • Attention to detail and ability to identify culturally sensitive design solutions.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Passion for preserving and promoting Makkah’s architectural heritage.

  • Must be Muslim; English language is preferred.
