Job Description:

Parsons is seeking a cleared, professional Senior-level Kafka Developer who has experience designing, developing, and deploying Kafka-based data streaming applications to join our team. In this role, your knowledge of remote access technologies and disparate data will be put to the test as you collaborate with your teammates to make your customer’s requirements become reality. 

You will work closely with our partners as well as data engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure that our data-driven strategies are effective and aligned with our organizational goals. 

This position requires occasional travel to Ft Meade, MD, Columbia, MD, and Quantico, VA. 

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Kafka-based data streaming applications 

  • Optimize Kafka performance and troubleshoot issues 

  • Strong design skills with schema registry and streams implementation 

  • Analyze user needs and develop software solutions 

  • Develop Kafka custom connectors to accelerate data connection in various settings at regional and tactical nodes 

  • Develop/Integrate web-based management and control Graphical User Interfaces for managing Kafka architecture, system health, and administrative management 

  • Operate in an agile development environment using DevSecOps and CI/CD practices 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions 

  • Coordinate with Product Designer and Product Manager to translate "user stories" into deliverable code 

  • Conduct and participate in design reviews, sprint demonstrations, and after-action reviews 

  • Write, review, and execute comprehensive test procedures 

  • Deploy applications into development/staging/production environments 

  • Ensure secure development and deployment of Kafka systems 

  • Peer-review and comment on software code and write/review/update software design and user-focused documentation (e.g., User Manuals) 

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • B.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (A combination of education and demonstrated experience will be considered in lieu of a degree) 

  • Minimum 9 years software engineering experience (including demonstrated data engineering) with 4+ years of Kafka-related architecture development 

  • Experience with DevSecOps and CI/CD practices 

  • Experience developing in a Linux environment (RHEL, Rocky, Ubuntu) 

  • Experience using scripting languages such as bash and shell scripting 

  • Experience with agile project management using tools such as Jira and Confluence and configuration management tools such as Gitlab 

  • Experience with container-based systems such as Docker and Kubernetes 

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Node.js, JavaScript (TypeScript), and Python 

  • Experience processing JSON and XML data formats

  • Excellent software testing skills 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail 

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment 

  • U.S. Citizenship and active DoD Secret clearance 


What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • SAFe Agile training such as Agile Software Engineer, SAFe for Teams, or SAFe for Government 

  • Experience with automation languages such as Puppet, Ansible, and Terraform 

  • Experience with data parsers and data ingest methodologies 

    Knowledge of analytics 

  • Web development experience with a focus on UI/UX 

    Knowledge of the Big Data Platform (BDP) 

  • AI/ML experience 

Security Clearance Requirement:

An active Secret security clearance is required for this position.​

Salary Range: $144,800.00 - $260,600.00
