Job Description:
As a Network Technician at Parsons, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our network systems. You will leverage your experience to analyze network designs, configure communication equipment, and optimize system performance. Your work will directly contribute to the success of projects that improve transportation systems, enhance public safety, and advance smart city initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Analysis and Optimization:
- Analyze network designs and configurations to identify errors and inefficiencies.
- Prepare detailed reports with recommendations for improving performance and reliability.
- Configure new communication equipment for installation and ensure seamless integration into existing systems.
- Equipment Configuration and Deployment:
- Configure cell routers, switches, wireless access points, and priority request servers for installation at signal intersections.
- Monitor network devices using Nagios and troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Training and Documentation:
- Compile training materials from team members and organize them for easy access.
- Prepare and present final training materials and documentation.
- Network Maintenance and Security:
- Maintain communication to network devices through fiber-optic cables and wireless transmission systems.
- Manage Cisco routers, switches, site-to-site and remote access VPNs, servers, and network monitoring tools like Nagios.
- Perform firewall modifications and update schematics diagrams of fiber infrastructure and cabinet details.
- Traffic and Infrastructure Support:
- Maintain communication with traffic signal controllers, cameras, vehicle detection systems, dynamic message signs, and other network devices using fiber-optic and wireless connections.
- Travel to various street intersections to monitor and record traffic flow and monitor signal timings and traffic operations.
- Produce cost-benefit analyses based on traffic data to support project goals.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Configure, wire, and debug network gear as part of technical support.
- Maintain inventory spreadsheets with serial numbers, IP addresses, and device locations.
- Update and scan cabinet drawings to ensure accurate "As-Built" documentation.
- Perform quality control tests on WiFi and other network equipment to ensure compliance with project standards.
Qualifications:
- CCNA certification is preferred.
- Experience with Cisco routers, switches, VPNs, and network monitoring tools like Nagios.
- Experience with fiber-optic and wireless transmission systems.
- Experience in configuring and deploying network devices, including cell routers and wireless access points.
- Ability to analyze network designs and prepare detailed reports with actionable recommendations.
- Familiarity with traffic signal controllers, vehicle detection systems, and dynamic message signs is a plus.
- Excellent communication and training skills, with experience creating and presenting technical materials.
- Strong organizational skills for managing inventory and documentation.
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma, or equivalent, and typically 4+ years of related work experience, or an Associate's Degree in a related field with 2+ years of experience.
