Our environmental support services are offered to clients, including transportation departments in Maryland, DC, Virginia, and Georgia, WMATA and Amtrak and Federal departments and agencies, including Labor, DOT, FAA, FRA, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and other federal departments.

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental / NEPA Expert to join our dynamic team and lead our growing environmental practice. The successful candidate will lead and manage environmental projects and aspects of projects, ensuring compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other relevant regulations. This person will also assist in permit applications and monitoring for both design-bid-build and design-build projects, both big and small. This role requires a deep understanding of environmental policies, exceptional leadership abilities, and a commitment to excellence. In addition to environmental expertise, managing and helping the team grow is paramount.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and build relationships with clients and agency counterparts
  • Identify potential pursuits and assist with proposal development
  • Lead and manage NEPA compliance projects, including Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), and Categorical Exclusions (CE).
  • Serve as the environmental lead on major projects.
  • Conduct thorough environmental analyses and assessments to identify potential impacts and mitigation measures.
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies, stakeholders, and the public to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Develop and implement project plans, timelines, and budgets.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to team members and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and review technical documents, reports, and presentations.
  • Ensure all projects comply with NEPA regulations and other environmental laws.
  • Help apply for, obtain and monitor project permits and environmental compliance
  • Mentor and develop a team of environmental professionals.
  • Provide technical guidance to the staff within areas of expertise.
  • Work with team members to identify career goals and growth opportunities.
  • Identify staffing needs and work with local management and in-house recruiters to hire and on-board new staff.
  • Stay current with changes in environmental regulations and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field (master’s degree desirable).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental planning and NEPA compliance.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing NEPA projects.
  • Experience working with local transportation agencies such as VDOT, DDOT, MDOT, and Prince George's, Montgomery, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple staff and projects simultaneously.
  • Prior team leadership/staff management experience is desirable
  • Professional certifications such as AICP, PWS, CPSEC, CEP, or PMP are a plus.

Salary Range: $128,700.00 - $260,600.00
