Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Design Risk Lead to join our team! In this role you will lead the identification, assessment, and management of risks during the design phase of airport infrastructure projects.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Conduct regular risk workshops, reviews, and brainstorming sessions with project teams to identify potential risks early in the design process.
  • Ensure that design risks are adequately documented and communicated to relevant stakeholders for mitigation.
  • Develop and implement strategies for managing and mitigating identified design risks, ensuring that they align with project objectives and timelines.
  • Collaborate with designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that risk mitigation measures are incorporated into design solutions.
  • Develop contingency plans and recommend design changes or adaptations to minimize risk exposure.
  • Work closely with architects, engineers, and other design professionals to incorporate risk management into the design process, from concept through to detailed design.
  • Provide risk management guidance on various aspects of design, including structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering, ensuring that each discipline understands the potential risks within their scope.
  • Liaise with project managers to ensure that risk mitigation measures are aligned with project schedules and budgets.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies throughout the design phase, ensuring that any new risks are quickly identified and addressed.
  • Prepare regular reports for senior management and stakeholders on the status of design-related risks, providing updates on the effectiveness of mitigation measures and recommending additional actions where necessary.
  • Maintain and update the risk register, ensuring that all risks are tracked, documented, and communicated.
  • Ensure that design risk management activities comply with relevant local, national, and international standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Ensure that risk mitigation efforts are in line with organizational safety policies, sustainability goals, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Keep abreast of industry best practices and emerging trends in design risk management, incorporating new methods and technologies into the process.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, project teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies, ensuring alignment on risk management strategies.
  • Provide expert advice and support to project teams, helping them to make informed decisions about design risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Organize and lead risk review meetings, ensuring that all parties are involved and that risks are adequately addressed.
  • Provide training and mentoring to project teams and junior staff on risk management practices, ensuring that they understand their role in identifying and managing design risks.
  • Foster a culture of proactive risk management within the design team, ensuring that all team members are equipped to contribute to risk mitigation efforts.
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness of the risk management process after project completion, identifying lessons learned and areas for improvement.
  • Recommend improvements to risk management processes and tools, ensuring continuous improvement in the management of design risks for future projects.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in risk management (e.g., ISO 31000, Project Management Professional [PMP], or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in risk management, with at least 5 years of experience specifically managing design risks in large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience in identifying and managing risks across various design disciplines, including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering.
  • Extensive experience in risk management for complex infrastructure projects, particularly in the airport, transportation, or large commercial sectors.
  • Deep understanding of risk management principles, methodologies, and tools, particularly as applied to the design phase of infrastructure projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex design scenarios and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations related to design and construction.
  • Proficiency in risk management software and tools (e.g., Risk Register, Primavera Risk Analysis, or similar).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and guide design teams and stakeholders in risk management practices.
  • Certification in risk management (e.g., ISO 31000, PMP, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of design-specific risk management standards such as those in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is a plus.
  • Experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects in the airport or transportation sectors is highly desirable.
  • Experience in risk management for both public and private sector projects, including working with government regulations and compliance requirements
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other design tools for risk analysis and management.
  • Familiarity with digital twin technologies, which can support design and operational risk management through real-time simulation and analysis.
