Job Description:

The Automation Architect Lead serves as the technical authority for automation design, strategy, and implementation across the BNATCS Program. This role will lead the design and deployment of enterprise-scale automation frameworks that improve system efficiency, integration, and reliability within a large, complex environment. The Architect will collaborate across engineering, cybersecurity, and program teams to define and execute the automation roadmap in alignment with mission and customer objectives.

This is a senior technical leadership role requiring deep experience with systems automation, orchestration, and integration within distributed or mission-critical infrastructures.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Define and drive the BNATCS automation architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with enterprise engineering and integration objectives.

  • Lead design and implementation of automation solutions across infrastructure, application deployment, monitoring, and configuration management.

  • Evaluate and integrate modern automation tools, frameworks, and practices (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Python scripting, Kubernetes, Docker).

  • Partner with engineering and operations teams to identify automation opportunities that reduce manual effort, increase reliability, and improve scalability.

  • Develop automation standards, reusable templates, and documentation to ensure consistency and maintainability across program environments.

  • Serve as the lead technical advisor for automation-related initiatives, guiding design reviews, technical assessments, and implementation planning.

  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and network engineering to ensure automation aligns with compliance and security controls.

  • Mentor engineering teams in automation best practices, tool utilization, and process integration.

  • Support ongoing innovation and continuous improvement through technology evaluation and proof-of-concept efforts.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (Master’s preferred).

  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering or IT automation, including 5+ years in a senior or lead architect capacity.

  • Proven experience designing and implementing automation in large-scale, distributed, or mission-critical environments.

  • Expertise with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools and automation frameworks such as Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, or similar.

  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash).

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud or virtualized environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver complex automation initiatives.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Experience supporting FAA, defense, or federal engineering programs.

  • Knowledge of systems integration within secure or classified environments.

  • Background in DevSecOps implementation and automated compliance validation.
