Job Description:

Polaris Alpha® Advanced Systems, a Parsons company, is hiring an experienced Software Developer/Engineer whose role will be essential to the design, implementation, and delivery of high performance, secure, mission critical solutions. We seek engineers that are versatile, display leadership qualities, and are enthusiastic to tackle new challenges as we continue to provide the military with cutting edge tools. We are seeking a highly motivated software engineer for an exciting and unique opportunity in a fast-paced environment as a robotics software developer embedded within the Combat Development Directorate (CDD) Robotics, a part of Special Operations Command.  The Software Engineer will spend 1 to 3 years assigned to Fort Liberty, North Carolina with reach back capability to the broader software engineering team at Picatinny Arsenal.  For this position, the Software Engineer will provide rapid software solutions and integrated software products to meet end user requirements as they emerge in real time.  This will in turn provide new capability with end user input back into the US Army development cycle, further advancing US Army UxS requirements – the Technology Readiness Levels of the capabilities are 1 through 6.  The Software Engineer will also serve as a senior advisor, providing support for programmatic functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Requirements analysis and traceability
  • Software configuration management using Git or similar tools
  • Software development:  design, implementation, test
  • Support periodic design reviews
  • Support Agile sprint planning activities
  • Authoring design, interface, and user documentation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Active interest / knowledge of small UAS; on-the-job experience developing UAV guidance, navigation, and control algorithms is preferred
  • Familiarity/experience with drone programming, specifically PX4 and/or betaflight
  • Experience developing in:
    • C++
    • Python
  • Experience with Development, Build and Configuration tools for example the Atlassian toolset (e.g., Jira, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Confluence)
  • Experience performing / supporting
    • Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews (PDR/CDR),
    • Documentation reviews
    • Test plan development and execution
    • Evaluating and helping to refine Key Performance Parameters and Key System Attributes (KPP/KSA) as it pertains to new technology
  • Excellent organizational, communications, problem-solving and people skills, be a self-starter, and enjoy being part of, leading, and contributing to a hard-working team.
  • Must have the ability to quickly learn and creatively leverage new technologies.
  • Technical leadership and team leadership experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and hold a Secret or higher security clearance
  • Must be able to travel.  Anticipated travel level 5%-10%.

Desired Capabilities:

  • Software development lifecycle experience (SDLC), especially within the DoD
  • Experience with Government standards and procedures.
  • Understanding of, and experience working within, the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)​
  • Familiarity/experience with Ardupilot and/or other equivalent flight control firmware
  • Familiarity/experience with Robot Operating System (ROS).
  • Experience developing or using UAS Ground Control Stations (GCS)
  • Part 107 Drone Pilot Certification and/or hobby flight.

Salary Range: 

$96,400.00 - $168,700.00
