Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Tunnel Lead to join our team! In this role you will get to provide specialised expertise and guidance on tunnelling projects across the region.
The Tunnel Lead will provide expertise and guidance in planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining TBM tunnel projects. The ideal candidate will advise on technical aspects and geotechnical analysis and ensure the implementation of best practices in tunnel design and construction.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in various tunnelling methods and a deep understanding of geotechnical engineering principles. The ideal candidate will ensure the successful delivery of tunnel projects and maintain the highest safety, quality, and efficiency standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in tunnelling techniques, geotechnical analysis and related structural engineering.
The ideal candidate must have an in-depth understanding of tunnelling methods, geotechnical principles, associated structural analysis, and relevant industry standards and codes. The ideal candidate must have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, a proactive approach to addressing project challenges and the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely.
What You'll Be Doing:
Technical Expertise:
Provide advanced technical guidance on all aspects of tunnelling projects, including design, construction, and maintenance.
Advise on the selection of appropriate tunnelling methods, including TBM based on project requirements and site conditions.
Review and oversee detailed geotechnical analysis to assess ground conditions and potential risks.
Evaluate and recommend appropriate tunnelling techniques.
Provide technical expertise and guidance on tunnelling methods, design, and construction practices.
Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and best practices.
Project Support
Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop and optimise tunnel design and construction plans.
Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
Identify potential technical challenges and develop innovative solutions to address them.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation
Conduct risk assessments to identify potential issues and propose mitigation measures for issues such as ground instability, water ingress, and seismic activity.
Develop and implement mitigation strategies to manage risks and ensure the safety and stability of tunnelling operations.
Monitor and evaluate risk management practices throughout project lifecycles.
Quality Assurance
Establish and maintain quality control procedures to meet the highest engineering and construction standards.
Conduct site inspections and audits to verify design specifications and construction standards compliance if and when required.
Implement and promote continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and efficiency.
Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met and concerns addressed.
Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and technical documentation for various stakeholders.
Address any concerns or issues raised by stakeholders promptly and effectively.
Training, Development and Mentoring
Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers and project team members on tunnelling techniques and best practices.
Share knowledge and expertise through workshops, seminars, and technical presentations.
Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies in tunnel engineering.
Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in tunnelling practices and project delivery.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field. Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
Minimum of 15 years of experience in tunnel engineering and construction, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Professional Engineer (PE) license, Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent certification.
