Job Description:

With Parsons, you will handle a variety of traffic related notifications while delivering world class customer service!  In this role, you will support our Department of Transportation client to monitor roadways and help manage traffic events/incidents to ensure the right personnel are dispatched to handle the problem.  You will be answering and responding to calls from the public, and will communicate, coordinate and collaborate with our teams using various tools like our Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), and other traffic monitoring equipment.  Once you receive calls, your goal will be to help resolve traffic incidents by escalating issues through the appropriate channels like other Traffic Management Center staff, Highway Patrol, and partner agencies, like Fire Rescue, EMS, Towing, Law Enforcement and other emergency responders.  You can help to make roads and highways safer in your neighborhood!

These positions will require working weekends, some holidays, special events and weather related activities, plus over-time is paid at the time and a half rate of pay.  The shifts are generally 8 hours/5days. Specific shift schedules to be discussed (rotating).

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Observe traffic incidents on traffic monitoring equipment (CCTV, Real Time Data, etc.).

  • Use ITS software to log potential and confirmed incidents, construction, and maintenance closures.

  • Log time-based components of the incident timeline for TIM performance consistently across all roadways.

  • Monitor ITS software system-generated response plans and accept or manually override them as necessary.

  • Compose clear and concise sentences that include all pertinent information without spelling or grammatical errors.

  •  Use radio, telephone, and e-mail to communicate with TxDOT personnel statewide, including maintenance and construction personnel, ITS software technicians, TxDOT management, Department of Public Safety, and Federal Highway Administration as appropriate, regarding incidents, traffic, road conditions, maintenance and construction activity, and related weather conditions.

  • Dispatch and communicate with all incident management personnel via radio, email, telephone, or computer aided dispatch using standard protocol to the locations of road hazards and crashes, providing clear directions to the location and an accurate description of an incident as advised by citizens, public safety entities, department personnel, or ITS software.

  • Dispatch and communicate with HERO incident management personnel via radio, email, telephone, or computer aided dispatch using standard protocol to the locations of road hazards and crashes, providing clear directions to the location and an accurate description of an incident as advised by citizens, public safety entities, department personnel, or ITS software.

  • Provide information or assistance to motorists, TxDOT personnel, or other agencies on traffic and road conditions; direct calls to appropriate personnel in traffic operations or take action as necessary.

  • Update messages on the TxDOT ATMS (once activated).

  • Answer all after-hour calls for the TxDOT Austin District, documenting communication and dispatching the necessary personnel.

  • Perform all duties with the highest level of customer service.

  • Be prepared to work additional hours or shifts in support of weather and special events.

  • Use radio, telephone, and e-mails to communicate with TxDOT, law enforcement, EMS, fire department, or towing services to provide clear and accurate information regarding incidents and the response required.

  • Ensure that all radio communications are in compliance with TxDOT and FCC radio protocol using the proper 10-codes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have a minimum of 1 years’ experience within the past 3 years relatable experience.

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 

  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and during emergency transportation operations (i.e. Planned or unplanned emergencies like weather or large event)

Relatable Experience in All of the Following:

  • Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

  • Proven analysis experience in freeway management system concepts and operations, traffic flow principles and procedures, electrical/electronic and design procedures, applicable TMS-related computer applications and operations and implementing emergency response procedures.

  • Worked in a high-paced and high-pressure environment. Prioritized tasks providing customer service and using excellent communication skills, via radio, phone, and emails.

  • Use ITS software to control and monitor field devices such as CCTV cameras, DMS, WWDD, and any other technology related to devices that may be implemented as part of ITS.

  • Monitor video images for the detection and verification of crashes, debris, abandoned or disabled vehicles, and hazardous or non-hazardous spills.

  • Complete TIM training, FCC 10-codes radio, and other TxDOT mandatory training.

  • Have the knowledge and skills to utilize and operate ITS software, web- based and software applications, as well as utility programs to manage and monitor ITS field devices.

Salary Range: $13.80 - $23.46
