Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Testing and Commissioning – Fire and Life Safety Lead to join our team! In this role you will get to ensure the successful commissioning and operational readiness of all fire and life safety systems for airport infrastructure projects. The role involves managing the testing, validation, and integration of fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and delivering high-quality, fully operational systems to the client .
What You'll be Doing;
- Lead and manage the testing and commissioning of fire and life safety systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting, smoke control systems, emergency communication systems, fire pumps, and other life safety equipment within the airport infrastructure.
- Ensure that all systems are fully functional, compliant with project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements (local, national, and international codes such as NFPA, ICAO, etc.).
- Develop and implement detailed testing and commissioning plans specifically for fire and life safety systems, ensuring alignment with the overall project schedule and milestones.
- Coordinate and collaborate with project teams, contractors, and vendors to schedule and ensure the timely completion of testing and commissioning activities.
- Ensure resources (personnel, equipment, materials) are available and adequately allocated for all testing and commissioning tasks.
- Oversee the integration and functional testing of fire and life safety systems to ensure seamless operation and full integration with other building systems (e.g., BMS, security, and HVAC systems).
- Conduct inspections and ensure systems operate as required for fire detection, alarm systems, evacuation procedures, and other emergency protocols.
- Perform functional testing, including live system testing, system interlocks, alarm functionality, emergency response drills, and other necessary system tests.
- Ensure all fire and life safety systems meet the relevant quality standards and codes, including international and airport-specific regulations.
- Ensure compliance with local fire safety standards (e.g., NFPA, BS, local fire codes) and the project's fire safety plan.
- Monitor the quality of testing, commissioning, and installation work for fire and life safety systems, ensuring adherence to safety and performance requirements.
- Identify any issues or deficiencies that arise during testing and commissioning and take a proactive approach to resolve them promptly.
- Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to system malfunctions, non-compliance, or integration problems during commissioning.
- Work closely with contractors and subcontractors to ensure the timely resolution of all technical and operational challenges.
- Ensure that all testing and commissioning activities for fire and life safety systems are accurately documented, including test results, compliance records, and certificates.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on the progress of testing and commissioning activities, highlighting milestones, risks, and issues that require attention.
- Maintain comprehensive records of system tests, inspections, commissioning activities, and final acceptance certificates for future reference and audit purposes.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all fire and life safety testing and commissioning-related matters, providing updates to senior management, project teams, contractors, and clients.
- Facilitate communication between project stakeholders, including internal teams, contractors, and external authorities (e.g., fire departments or regulators), to ensure smooth coordination of all activities.
- Address any questions or concerns related to fire and life safety systems raised by stakeholders, including the client, design teams, and construction teams.
- Oversee the training of the operational team on the use and maintenance of fire and life safety systems once they are fully commissioned.
- Ensure smooth handover of all systems and associated documentation to the client or operational team, ensuring that they have the necessary information for system operation and maintenance.
What Required Skills You'll Bring;
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Safety Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced certifications or postgraduate qualifications in fire safety or project management are a plus.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in the testing and commissioning of fire and life safety systems, with at least 3 years in the airport or large-scale infrastructure sector.
- Proven experience in managing the commissioning of systems such as fire alarms, fire suppression systems, emergency lighting, smoke control, and evacuation systems.
- In-depth knowledge of fire and life safety systems and their design, installation, testing, and commissioning requirements.
- Strong understanding of international fire safety codes and standards, such as NFPA, ICAO, BS, and local fire codes.
- Proven ability to lead and manage teams in complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly in high-pressure environments.
- Familiarity with integrated systems, such as BMS and security systems, and their interaction with fire and life safety systems.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills to manage coordination across diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Certifications in fire safety systems, such as Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), NFPA certifications, or similar.
- Experience with integrated building management systems (BMS) and other safety systems in airports.
- Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is an advantage.
- Knowledge of specific airport safety regulations and best practices.
