Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Structural Field Engineer (SFE) to join our team. The SFE will set up key processes, as approved by the Program Director and/or the Task Manager and then will assist with implementing those processes. The primary role of the SFE is as technical support for structures maintenance teams.
The SFE is generally responsible for providing technical assistance to the structural maintenance crews such as adherence to specifications, work instructions, methods and procedures and product data, as well as assisting with maintenance strategies for frequency and type of maintenance, and materials and equipment selection. The SFE receives assignments and reports directly to Program Director and/or the Task Manager and works on a day-to-day basis with the maintenance crews. The SFE will also interface with the structural engineers when new or revised repair procedures are required. Additionally, the SFE shall be required to work during nights and weekends as needed.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Generally responsible for providing technical assistance to the structural maintenance crews such as interpreting of and adhering to specifications, work instructions, methods and procedures and product data, as well as assisting with maintenance strategies for frequency and type of maintenance, and materials and equipment selection;
- Maintain regular logs of SFE technical support work;
- Achieve and maintain familiarity with maintenance team plans, project specifications, work instructions, schedules, applicable safety regulations, and design, shop and other corresponding working drawings to be knowledgeable about the Maintenance department’s obligations/plans/schedule;
- Provide technical support for various structural repairs and restoration work including, but not limited to, direct fixation track support/grout pads, leak mitigation work, drainage system maintenance and repairs, structural concrete patching and all other related/ancillary structural components;
- Interface with structural engineers when new or modified repair procedures are needed;
- Provide input for updating various repair procedures;
- Provide scheduling recommendations considering allowable work windows;
- Observe and support maintenance project work in the field to provide technical assistance;
- Review and analyze conditions/defects and incidents in the asset management database (Maximo and Optram) to help the maintenance crews with decision making on type and frequency of maintenance activities;
- Coordinate with maintenance crews and maintenance managers, which may require an interface with the reliability team for analysis that drive maintenance program decisions;
- Provide recommendations to the Program Director on a routine basis for potential improvements to structural asset management strategies, whether maintenance or renewals. Assist the Program Director, maintenance team with input to the Structural Asset Management Plan which is currently in development;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or designee.
BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and 8+ years of relevant experience
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the construction and/or preferably maintenance of major transit projects or similar infrastructure is required;
- Demonstrated experience with concrete and steel structures is required;
- Experience with tunnel maintenance, including leak mitigation, is preferred;
- Experience with maintenance of the trackbed under direct fixation track (trackbed and drainage system cleaning, grout pad renewals) is preferred;
- Experience with repair of concrete structural defects is preferred;
- Ability to read and comprehend plans, specifications, and repair procedures, and to assist maintenance crews with interpretation of the documents;
- Ability to proactively support maintenance crews with options for material and equipment selection and deployment, including associated construction means and methods;
- Ability to identify and address safety and quality concerns;
- Ability to coordinate with maintenance staff, communicate effectively with all parties and good interpersonal skills;
- Experience with asset management databases such as Maximo and Optram preferred, with incident analysis for maintenance strategy/planning experience also preferred.
