Structural Engineer - Depot and Ancillary Building (Design)

Parsons is seeking an experienced Depot and Ancillary Building Structural Engineer to join our Project Management Consultant (PMC) team for a large-scale metro infrastructure project. The role focuses on overseeing the design, construction, and structural integrity of depot and ancillary buildings, including maintenance facilities, administrative buildings, parking structures, and other supporting infrastructure.
What You'll Be Doing:
Design and Technical Oversight
- Review and validate structural designs, calculations, and drawings for depot and ancillary buildings to ensure compliance with project specifications and local regulations.
- Provide technical input during the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases, ensuring designs meet safety, durability, and operational requirements.
Construction Supervision
- Oversee the construction of depot and ancillary buildings, ensuring structural elements are built to design specifications and quality standards.
- Monitor contractors’ work to ensure adherence to approved designs, materials, and construction methods.
Structural Integrity and Safety
- Assess structural stability under various load conditions, including seismic, wind, and operational loads.
- Ensure compliance with international and local building codes (e.g., ACI, Eurocodes, BS, or equivalent).
- Address potential risks and structural challenges, developing solutions to maintain safety and performance.
Coordination and Integration
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architectural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers, to ensure structural systems align with overall project requirements.
- Facilitate integration of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical infrastructure, with structural components.
Testing and Quality Assurance
- Participate in quality inspections, material testing, and structural assessments to verify compliance with project requirements.
- Review and approve test results for structural elements such as concrete, steel, and foundation systems.
Documentation and Reporting
- Review and provide feedback on technical documentation, including structural drawings, specifications, and construction reports.
- Prepare regular progress reports for stakeholders, highlighting risks, solutions, and achievements.
Handover and Maintenance Support
- Ensure proper documentation for structural elements is provided for operation and maintenance teams.
- Support the handover process by verifying completion of structural work and addressing outstanding issues.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification
- Minimum 5–10 years of structural design experience and construction for large-scale infrastructure projects, with at least 5 years in depot and ancillary building projects.
- Prior experience in a PMC or client representative role is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAP2000).
- Strong understanding of building codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., ACI, Eurocodes, BS).
- Experience in managing structural challenges in depot and industrial facilities.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities to manage multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
