Job Description:
Structural Design Engineer
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Structural Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will perform a variety of structural engineering tasks by applying standard engineering principles, design techniques, and analytical methods to support building and infrastructure projects.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop and/or supervise the preparation of structural engineering deliverables that meet project requirements, applicable codes, and quality standards.
- Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of projects, including: Steel-framed buildings Reinforced and prestressed concrete structures Composite structures Precast and cast-in-place concrete structures
- Prepare detailed structural calculations, design criteria, specifications, drawings, reports, and technical documentation.
- Define design problems, establish the scope of work, develop project budgets and schedules, plan activities, and monitor progress.
- Apply engineering judgment to develop practical, safe, economical, and constructible structural solutions.
- Coordinate structural designs with architects, MEP engineers, civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, contractors, and other project disciplines.
- Review structural drawings, specifications, shop drawings, calculations, and design submissions for compliance with project requirements and applicable standards.
- Provide technical guidance and direction to CAD designers, BIM modelers, drafters, and junior engineers.
- Support procurement activities, tender evaluations, contractor queries, technical submittals, and construction-related engineering requirements.
- Participate in site inspections, field surveys, condition assessments, and construction support activities, as required.
- Identify technical issues, propose solutions, and communicate project status to the project manager and discipline lead.
- May serve as the structural discipline lead or supervise structural engineering staff on small- to medium-sized projects.
- Provide input regarding the performance and development of subordinate staff.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as appropriate.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of five years of experience in structural engineering design.
- Demonstrated experience in the analysis and design of steel structures, including steel-framed buildings, platforms, mezzanines, industrial structures, connections, and secondary steelwork.
- Experience with other structural systems, including: Reinforced concrete Prestressed and precast concrete Cast-in-place concrete Composite steel and foundation systems or other infrastructure structures is desirable
- Good knowledge of applicable structural design codes and standards, such as AISC, ASCE, IBC, ACI, Eurocodes, BS Standards, or other relevant international standards.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software, such as ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, IDEA Statica, SAFE, MIDAS, CSiBridge, Autodesk Structural Analysis and Design, or equivalent platforms.
- Ability to prepare and review structural calculations, design drawings, specifications, reports, and technical submissions.
- Understanding of structural detailing, constructability, material specifications, and construction methods.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Professional engineering registration or progress toward professional registration is preferred.
- Experience with international projects, multidisciplinary design coordination, or construction support is an advantage.
