Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an exceptionally talented individual with a passion for technology and innovation. We are hiring a Smart Mobility Applications Developer to support the development, customization, deployment, and maintenance of smart mobility applications for Parsons clients around the world. The ideal candidate will have extensive industry experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems; and will be a talented software developer, capable of working effectively both individually and as part of a team.
Job description:
Applying proven technical capabilities and practical Smart Mobility industry experience (including common end-user use cases and industry standards and protocols relevant to arterial traffic signal and/or freeway management systems); designs and codes software components, units, and modules to meet product specifications and development schedules for clients/customers. Tests and debugs software components and units. Participates in system and subsystem planning. Adheres to product build and release schedules and strategies. Has solid foundations in several programming languages including Python, Java, and/or JavaScript. Has practical experience using software integration frameworks including Spring and/or JBOSS. Has solid foundations in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Works effectively both independently and cooperatively within a group of peers, often under tight project timelines. Brings a BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
Responsibilities:
o Listens effectively to IT administrators, client end-users, and project leaders to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet client needs. Asks appropriate questions when clarification is needed.
o Contributes to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team by identifying issues early and resolving them creatively and effectively.
o Works both independently and cooperatively within a small team of software engineers.
o Completes assigned development, support and maintenance tasks with a high degree of competence - consistent with communicated technical objectives and schedule/budget constraints.
o Assists more junior staff to solve complex technical problems, providing guidance and hands-on support as needed.
o Follows and contribute to the refinement of best practices and guidelines.
o Stays abreast of current technology trends, recent developments, and best practices; considering advances in smart mobility standards and technologies, AI-assisted development, cloud computing, edge computing, and cybersecurity.
o Fully engages in company Agile software development processes; and supporting tools.
o Engages in training and professional development activities to support organizational needs and career growth.
Preferred Education / Experience:
o 10+ Years of relevant experience in software engineering or a related discipline.
o Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
o Experience developing database, web and embedded applications within a distributed architecture.
o Experience with Agile methodologies and practices.
o Experience with Intelligent Transportation Systems and related industry standards (e.g., NTCIP).
Skills / Competencies:
o Ability to quickly analyze situations and determine appropriate actions.
o Excellent technical problem solver.
o Ability to understand and follow direction from both technical and non-technical leaders.
o Sympathetic to the needs of end-users and clients.
o Proficient in several programming languages including Python, Java, and/or JavaScript.
o Solid foundations in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
o Experience with Agile processes and software collaboration tools (e.g., JIRA, github).
o Detailed knowledge of industry standards and protocols relevant to arterial traffic signal and/or freeway management systems.
This position reports directly to the Director of Technical Services.
