Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Roads Engineer to join our team! In this role you will get to play a critical role in the design, management, and implementation of road infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet high safety, quality, and sustainability standards. This role requires advanced technical knowledge, strong project management skills, and the ability to work with diverse teams to deliver complex road projects. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with a passion for road engineering and the ability to lead and mentor others in the field.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Road Design and Planning:
Lead the design and planning of road infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements.
Develop road layouts, alignments, cross-sections, drainage systems, and pavement designs.
Use design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar tools) to create detailed road design drawings and documents.
Ensure designs accommodate various traffic needs, including pedestrian, vehicle, and cyclist access.
Project Management and Execution:
Oversee the execution of road projects, managing teams and contractors to ensure timely and quality delivery.
Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources effectively, ensuring all aspects of the road infrastructure are completed to specification.
Ensure that all phases of the project, from design to construction, meet contractual, budgetary, and timeline requirements.
Monitor construction progress and provide technical support during the construction phase, resolving any design or construction issues.
Coordination and Collaboration:
Work closely with civil, structural, and traffic engineers, environmental consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project integration and execution.
Collaborate with local authorities, contractors, and suppliers to ensure road designs meet municipal and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate with environmental specialists to integrate eco-friendly practices and address environmental concerns in the project.
Quality Control and Compliance:
Ensure that all design and construction activities comply with local standards, engineering codes, and quality regulations.
Perform regular site inspections to ensure that road construction is progressing in line with the approved designs and specifications.
Supervise testing and quality assurance processes for road materials, pavement strength, and other relevant testing.
Traffic Analysis and Management:
Conduct traffic flow analysis to determine road capacity and optimize design for maximum efficiency and safety.
Incorporate intelligent traffic systems (ITS), road safety barriers, and other technologies to improve traffic management.
Analyze traffic data and adjust road designs as necessary to mitigate congestion and ensure safety.
Risk Management and Safety:
Identify potential risks during the design and construction phases and propose mitigation strategies.
Ensure that all road designs are safe for all users, including drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.
Promote and ensure safety standards are adhered to throughout the entire project lifecycle, including construction and post-construction.
Sustainability and Environmental Impact:
Advocate for sustainable design practices, including the integration of green infrastructure, eco-friendly materials, and energy-efficient road systems.
Address environmental concerns in the design and implementation phases, such as stormwater management, wildlife corridors, and noise reduction.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability goals for the road infrastructure project.
Team Leadership and Development:
Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior engineers and support staff, helping them develop their skills and expertise.
Lead and manage multidisciplinary teams, ensuring all team members are aligned with project goals.
Promote a collaborative and positive team environment, encouraging the sharing of knowledge and ideas.
Reporting and Stakeholder Communication:
Prepare and present detailed reports, including design proposals, progress updates, and final deliverables for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
Liaise with local authorities, clients, and other stakeholders to provide updates on road project status, addressing any concerns or feedback promptly.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree in Roads, Transportation, or Infrastructure Engineering is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in roads and infrastructure engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or leadership role.
Proven experience in designing, constructing, and managing road projects, including highways, urban streets, and other transportation systems.
Strong knowledge of road safety regulations, materials, pavement design, and drainage systems.
Skills & Knowledge:
Expertise in using road design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar tools).
In-depth knowledge of local road design codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., AASHTO, British Standards, or similar).
Solid understanding of traffic engineering, road capacity analysis, and transportation planning.
Experience in project management, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address technical challenges during design and construction.
Excellent communication skills for collaborating with clients, contractors, stakeholders, and team members.
