Senior Power Distribution Engineer
We harness the power of innovation so that you can change the world and help our customers solve their most complex challenges
Job Description:
Are you ready to take on a career-defining challenge in metro system infrastructure? Parsons, a global leader in transportation and infrastructure engineering, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Power Distribution System Engineer to join our Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team for a high-profile design and build metro project. This role involves overseeing the design, implementation, and commissioning of the metro’s power distribution systems, including traction power, auxiliary power, and interface with other critical systems. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in power distribution engineering, with a focus on railway/metro systems, and the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams in delivering complex projects to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency.
As a senior professional in the PMC team, you will be responsible for managing contractors, ensuring compliance with international standards, and liaising with stakeholders to meet project goals.
Key Responsibilities
Power Distribution Design and Implementation
- Review and validate the design of power distribution systems, including traction power supply (25 kV AC, 750 V DC, or as applicable), auxiliary power systems, and interface with station services.
- Ensure that designs meet the project’s technical specifications, operational requirements, and international standards (e.g., EN 50122, IEEE 80, IEC 61936).
- Oversee the integration of power distribution systems with signaling, communication, and rolling stock systems.
- Provide technical guidance for the optimization of load flow, fault current analysis, and protection coordination studies.
Project Management and Supervision
- Manage and oversee contractors and vendors involved in the power distribution scope, ensuring timely delivery of design, installation, and testing phases.
- Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to keep the project on track.
- Ensure compliance with safety, reliability, and quality standards during design, construction, and commissioning.
- Coordinate with construction teams to ensure alignment between power distribution requirements and civil works.
Testing and Commissioning
- Oversee factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and system integration testing for power systems.
- Ensure that all power systems are tested and commissioned to meet project specifications and operational readiness criteria.
- Validate the performance of power systems under various operational scenarios, including normal, degraded, and emergency conditions.
Standards Compliance and Regulatory Approvals
- Ensure power distribution systems comply with relevant standards such as IEC, EN, IEEE, and local regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and review technical documentation required for approvals from authorities such as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) or equivalent regulatory body.
- Address technical queries and issues raised by regulatory authorities and ensure timely resolution.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate with design consultants, contractors, and client representatives to ensure alignment on technical and project objectives.
- Act as a technical liaison between the PMC team, contractors, and operational stakeholders.
- Provide technical support during client and stakeholder reviews, presenting progress updates and addressing queries.
