Senior Mechanical Engineer (Design Infrastructures)

Dubai, UAE

What You’ll Be Doing

Performs conventional and complex Mechanical engineering design assignments applying Mechanical engineering techniques and analysis within a discipline. The Engineer at this level is proficient in the utilization of standard engineering theories and practices, and Company procedures.

• This position maintains a key relationship with major clients and ensures satisfaction through exceeding client’s expectations across multiple projects.

Some assignments involve CAE (computer-aided engineering)/CAD (computer-aided design) applications. Willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site locations within the GCC region is expected.

Independently develops and/or supervises the creation of Mechanical engineering designs for Mechanical systems and pressurized networks for large and mega infrastructure projects that meet customer quality requirements and international as well as Local Authority regulations and standards. This includes defining the problem, establishing the work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, and reporting the work status.

Shall be responsible for liaising with Local Authorities such as DM, DEWA-WD, SEWA, ADM, ADSSC, SMDD, DCD, for obtaining Detailed Design Approvals, Network Approvals, Consumption utilities demand, NOCs, and all related designs preparations.

• Preparing master plans from Concept stage to Detailed Master Plan stage in terms of utility corridor space proofing, defining ROW requirements, coordination for wet utilities, with roads, transportation, landscape, and building design teams.
• Develop Master plan report, derive utility demand load calculations, sizing major equipment and selective protection coordination, tie-in point requirements, Full understanding of wet utilities and infrastructure projects from Concept to IFC stage.
• Strong infrastructure engineering background with previous experience on infrastructure projects calculations, and report writing skills.
• Shall be able to analyze the specific project requirements for greenfield, brownfield projects.
• Design of mechanical equipment for Sewerage Treatment Plants, Reverse Osmosis Plants, and various Stormwater, Sewage, Irrigation Pumping Stations.
• Knowledge in design of HVAC system including selecting appropriate type of Air conditioning system, heat load calculations, pipe sizing, sizing of chillers, and all associated equipment.
• Preparation of design reports, specifications, tender documents, and securing design approvals for different project phases including coordination with client/authorities/sub consultants.
• Review of design reports prepared by other consultants and preparation of design review reports.
• Preparation of technical proposals and estimation for projects, Technical Evaluation of Bids, and preparation of evaluation reports.
• Coordination with all local authorities of GCC Region.
• Carrying out Value Engineering for various technical options and preparing Value Engineering reports with recommendations.
• Preparing Clarifications to Contractor RFIs, Review/approve key technical submittals related to Mechanical works and dry utilities.
• Experience in using MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Navisworks environment and BIM software as well as Revit software.
• The engineer shall be assigned to a project or organizational team as a lead engineer for a specific discipline on a small to intermediate-size project.
• Shall Provide input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and Mid-Level, Junior Engineers working on the same project. Shall Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
• Shall support the preparation of detailed technical, commercial, and Life Cycle Cost Analysis of various technical alternatives. Shall be able to prepare and deliver detailed technical PowerPoint presentations for the Clients. Shall have experience in preparing technical design reports with minimum support from managers.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring

• 4-year degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering).
• Affiliation with recognized standard bodies is an added advantage. In addition, other specialist Training Certificates may be required.
• Minimum 8 years relevant experience in Mechanical design of Large Infrastructure projects with minimum 5 years in a similar Senior Mechanical Engineer position.
• Recent experience in Mechanical designs to local and international standards.
• Extensive experience and proficiency in using software, BIM and Revit experience, and other software to perform Advanced surge system analysis, pressure and flow studies, for networks.
• Experience in detailed designs of Mechanical systems for drainage, sewerage, Irrigation, and Fire pump stations.
• Must have thorough knowledge of NFPA regulations, Fire and Life Safety codes, and various local authority standards in the GCC like Dubai Civil Defense.
• Must have experience liaising with Dubai Municipality for obtaining Approvals, Building NOCs, etc.
• Approval from DM / RTA would be an added advantage.
