Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will get to use your mechanical engineering skills to focus on HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression and/or facility systems to support Critical Infrastructure projects.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Demonstrate a range of technical capabilities with experience in Mechanical Engineering and design, and development of contract documents (design reports, analysis reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, etc.).
- Lead or assist in the definition of mechanical project scope
- Performs site surveys of existing facilities for as-built document generation, rehabilitation designs, and for construction support of new facilities. Adherence to a Zero-Incident safety goal is expected.
- Establish user requirements, analyze system functional and performance requirements, and define design criteria
- Develop appropriate mechanical HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design schemes.
- Prepare and interpret engineering calculations including heat load and hydraulic calculations, and perform system analyses
- Prepare equipment sizing while ensuring that all analyses satisfy user and system requirements
- Provide input to other disciplines within the project design team on mechanical requirements for layouts and project designs
- Conduct interface management between related systems and disciplines.
- Prepare technical specifications including input received from other project disciplines
- Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports
- Prepare or provide input to 3D models and 2D mechanical drawings. Utilization of CAD and/or Building Information Modeling design software is expected.
- Participate in and contribute to design reviews
- Assist in the compilation and delivery of monthly engineering status reports
- Reviewing and approving mechanical system drawings, specifications, and construction documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with requests for information, field design changes, and nonconformance reports raised during the construction phase
- Guide and mentor more junior engineers
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Profession registration and/or Masters Degree.
- 8+ years of project engineering/design experience in buildings HVAC, Plumbing and Drainage, and Fire Protection
- Experience in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM), Computer Aided Design (CAD), scheduling software, or file management software is a plus. Working knowledge of REVIT, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Trane Trace, MathCAD, and/or other software packages typically associated with engineering.
- Working knowledge of industry standards (NFPA, ASHRAE), regulations, and codes (International Code Council) pertinent to the infrastructure mechanical engineering discipline
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Experience in sustainable design practices and LEED certification is advantageous.
- Willingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards, and processes.
- Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise engineers and designers.
- Candidate should be capable of working in a self-directed manner with minimal oversight.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
- Experience in LRT, Metro, or Railway /transit design projects is beneficial.
- Experience with greenfield and brownfield interfaces, including constructability experience
