Senior Engineers often manage small and medium size projects in it’s entirety or subtasks of larger projects or studies in accordance with contractual obligations. Senior Engineers are responsible for the technical excellence of the engineering functions of the project including coordination of technical disciplines and providing technical direction to junior and intermediate staff. With greater experience this position would lead to taking on greater client facing roles, leading our design teams to provide high quality design submissions to our clients and management of Municipal and Provincial projects.
Responsibilities:
- Develops the scope of engineering work, schedules, and budgets for assigned project elements, and monitors progress to meet schedule and budget requirements.
- Identifies and documents changes in scope. Assists in determining the scope of procurement work, schedules, and budgets for assigned projects.
- Coordinates the utilization of interdisciplinary technical personnel on the project with other Project Engineers, designers and technical staff. Coordinates the assignment of personnel from technical support groups within the company.
- Assists the Project Manager in planning, directing, supervising, and controlling the execution of technical, fiscal, and administrative functions of the project or study.
- Assists in determining the technical skills and staff hours required for successful completion of the project.
- Ensures client criteria and scope are met by all engineering disciplines.

- Support Project Managers and Senior Management in commercial and financial control of projects
- Expedites distribution of action items following discussions/meetings with the client and Project Manager.
- Prepares technical reports and documentation of activity for the client and project management.
- Obtains, analyzes, and circulates technical and contractual information to project disciplines.
- Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
- Provides technical guidance to junior and intermediate staff on the use of relevant roadway design manuals including (but not limited to) TAC manual, OTM manuals, AASHTO standards, MTO design supplements, OPSDs, OPSS, and municipal standards.
- Provides technical to junior and intermediate staff on the use of roadway design software such as Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, Microstation, Projectwise to develop design packages for our clients. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in these software packages to prepare design packages including the necessary skills to be able to perform corridor modeling through the use of assemblies in Civil 3D and/or templates in OpenRoads Designer.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 8+ years of related roads and highways engineering experience, or a broad general engineering background is required
- Professional registration with PEO
- Potential to perform in a lead capacity (i.e. highways/civil lead)
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Familiarity of industry practices and regulations are required
- Must also possess a thorough knowledge of current technology and be able to select and apply appropriate engineering software for use on project
- Experience on MTO and/or municipal roadway projects is a must
- Experience managing teams and junior staff.
