Job Description:
Parsons is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Southern California. In this role, you will play a key part in designing and delivering innovative electrical solutions for oil and gas, as well as energy projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, a proven ability to manage complex projects, and a commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for:
Design Development:
- Creating electrical deliverables for all project phases, including conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design.
- Designing medium and low voltage facility power distribution systems, including interfaces with electric utilities.
- Developing emergency and uninterruptible power generation and distribution systems.
- Designing miscellaneous electrical systems such as lighting, grounding, electrical heat tracing, fire alarm, public address, security, and card access systems.
Engineering Documentation:
- Preparing electrical drawings, including single-line diagrams, power and lighting plans, grounding plans, fire alarm layouts, and cable tray arrangements.
- Developing specifications for electrical equipment (e.g., MV/LV switchgear, MCCs, transformers, generators, UPS systems) and installation requirements.
- Creating databases and spreadsheets, such as motor and electrical load lists and panel schedules.
- Performing electrical calculations, including load flow studies, voltage drop analyses, lighting calculations, short circuit studies, protective device coordination, and arc flash analyses.
Project Support:
- Estimating engineering effort hours, material takeoffs, and construction costs.
- Contributing to engineering proposals and developing construction bid packages.
- Supporting procurement activities, including preparing technical data, evaluating bids, and reviewing vendor submittals.
- Conducting construction administration tasks, such as reviewing contractor submittals, responding to RFIs, and performing site inspections.
- Inspecting electrical installations and equipment for compliance with specifications, safety standards, and engineering documents.
Operational Excellence:
- Developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for electrical systems and equipment in mission-critical facilities.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Education & Licensure:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (required), with the ability to obtain licensure in California.
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical engineering, specifically designing power distribution systems for industrial facilities and utilities.
- Expertise in medium and low voltage power distribution system design, emergency power systems, and uninterruptible power systems.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in electrical engineering practices, including drawings, specifications, codes, building materials, and construction techniques.
- Familiarity with electrical power system analysis software such as ETAP, EDSA, and/or SKM.
- Knowledge of NFPA, NEC, and applicable electrical codes, as well as industry standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, IEEE, ISA).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
Soft Skills:
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to express ideas clearly both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated accountability and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
Additional Requirements:
Willingness and ability to travel to client offices, Parsons offices, and project sites for meetings, inspections, and technical support.
