Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Electrical Engineer – Airport and Airfield Infrastructure to join our team! In this role you will get to lead the technical review, coordination, and delivery of electrical engineering systems across major airport, airfield, and supporting infrastructure projects. You will provide technical oversight throughout the design, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover phases to ensure electrical systems are safe, reliable, compliant, and aligned with airport operational requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the review, coordination, and development of electrical engineering solutions for airport, airfield, and associated infrastructure projects.
- Review electrical designs, calculations, specifications, drawings, technical reports, and engineering submissions.
- Ensure electrical designs comply with international standards, local authority requirements, airport regulations, project specifications, and client requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and practical engineering solutions to support project delivery objectives.
- Support value engineering initiatives to optimize electrical system performance, reliability, maintainability, energy efficiency, and lifecycle cost.
- Review and coordinate medium-voltage and low-voltage power distribution systems for airport infrastructure.
- Review designs for substations, transformers, switchgear, generators, uninterruptible power supply systems, and electrical distribution networks.
- Verify that electrical systems provide sufficient capacity, redundancy, resilience, and reliability for critical airport operations.
- Review load calculations, short-circuit studies, protection coordination studies, voltage-drop calculations, and power system assessments.
- Coordinate electrical system integration with mechanical, ICT, security, aviation, BMS, SCADA, and airport operational systems.
- Support the design and delivery of airfield electrical infrastructure, including airfield ground lighting systems, associated power networks, control systems, and navigation-aid interfaces.
- Review airfield lighting circuits, constant-current regulators, control and monitoring systems, cabling, and electrical equipment installations.
- Ensure airfield electrical systems comply with applicable aviation requirements, operational criteria, and airport standards.
- Coordinate electrical interfaces associated with runways, taxiways, aprons, aircraft stands, and other airfield operational areas.
- Support testing, commissioning, integrated systems testing, and operational readiness activities for airfield electrical systems.
- Provide engineering support during construction, installation, testing, commissioning, and project handover.
- Review contractor shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, technical queries, requests for information, and proposed design changes.
- Conduct site inspections to verify that electrical works comply with approved designs, specifications, quality requirements, and installation procedures.
- Identify technical issues and support the timely resolution of construction and interface challenges.
- Monitor electrical installation progress and verify that works are executed in accordance with approved documentation and project requirements.
- Review internal and external lighting systems, including area lighting, security lighting, emergency lighting, roadway lighting, apron lighting, and operational lighting.
- Support the integration of electrical infrastructure with low-current, ICT, security, BMS, SCADA, and airport operational systems.
- Coordinate electrical interfaces with civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, ICT, airfield, utilities, and other engineering disciplines.
- Liaise with airport authorities, utility providers, government agencies, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Support technical approvals, regulatory submissions, inspections, permits, and authority coordination activities.
- Participate in design review meetings, technical workshops, constructability reviews, and multidisciplinary coordination sessions.
- Review electrical models and clashes using BIM and digital engineering platforms.
- Support the resolution of interface issues between designers, contractors, utility providers, and project stakeholders.
- Ensure electrical works comply with project specifications, quality standards, regulatory requirements, and approved inspection and test plans.
- Review inspection records, testing procedures, commissioning reports, nonconformance records, and quality documentation.
- Support quality audits, technical reviews, corrective action processes, and contractor performance monitoring.
- Promote safe working practices throughout electrical design, construction, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure electrical designs and installations comply with project HSE requirements and airport safety regulations.
- Support electrical risk assessments, safety reviews, maintainability studies, and constructability assessments.
- Ensure electrical systems are designed and delivered with operational safety, reliability, resilience, accessibility, and maintainability in mind.
- Prepare and review technical reports, design assessments, engineering recommendations, progress updates, and technical presentations.
- Maintain records of design reviews, approvals, inspections, technical queries, and engineering decisions.
- Provide technical input to project management regarding progress, risks, design issues, construction challenges, and mitigation measures.
- Support the preparation and review of testing, commissioning, as-built, operation and maintenance, and project handover documentation.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as appropriate.
What Required Skills You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering design, technical review, construction supervision, testing, commissioning, and project delivery.
- Proven experience supporting major airport, airfield, transportation, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong experience with electrical power distribution systems, critical electrical infrastructure, and airfield electrical systems.
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution systems
- Substations and transformers
- Switchgear and distribution boards
- Generators and standby power systems
- Uninterruptible power supply systems
- Protection and control systems
- Earthing, bonding, and lightning protection systems
- Lighting and emergency lighting systems
- Critical and resilient power architectures
- Experience reviewing electrical calculations, including:
- Load assessments
- Cable sizing
- Voltage-drop calculations
- Short-circuit analysis
- Load-flow studies
- Protection coordination studies
- Experience with airfield electrical systems, including airfield ground lighting circuits, constant-current regulators, control systems, and associated electrical networks.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams, consultants, contractors, utility providers, and specialist vendors.
- Experience supporting projects through design, construction, installation, testing, commissioning, operational readiness, and handover.
- Knowledge of electrical design software, power system analysis tools, and engineering review platforms.
- Familiarity with BIM platforms and multidisciplinary model coordination processes.
- Strong understanding of airport electrical infrastructure, airfield operational requirements, and critical-system reliability.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, applicable standards, technical specifications, and industry best practices.
- Experience reviewing shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, testing procedures, and contractor technical submissions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical review, and decision-support capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong stakeholder coordination, reporting, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and technical workstreams within a fast-paced program environment.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, airport authorities, consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.

- Familiarity with sustainable electrical design, energy management, renewable-energy integration, and energy-efficient systems.
- Experience with resilient power systems, microgrids, smart grids, or advanced electrical monitoring and control systems.
- Knowledge of SCADA, BMS, ICT, security, and airport operational system interfaces.
- Experience using BIM and digital engineering platforms for design coordination and construction support.
- Strong understanding of testing, commissioning, integrated systems testing, and operational readiness processes.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and promote technical excellence and continuous improvement.
