Job Description:
Parsons is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Design Manager specializing in Geotechnical Engineering to join our team for the groundbreaking NEOM THE LINE project. The Senior Design Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing all geotechnical aspects of the design, ensuring the stability, safety, and long-term performance of the project's foundations and earthworks. This role demands a deep understanding of complex geotechnical challenges, innovative solutions, and the ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the geotechnical design team, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and ensuring quality control.
Oversee the development of geotechnical investigation plans, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing programs.
Analyze and interpret geotechnical data to develop design parameters, including soil and rock properties, groundwater conditions, and seismic considerations.
Direct the design of foundations (shallow and deep), retaining structures, slopes, and other earthworks, ensuring compliance with international standards and project specifications.
Manage the preparation of geotechnical design reports, drawings, and specifications.
Coordinate with other design disciplines (structural, civil, etc.) to ensure design integration and resolve interface issues.
Liaise with the client, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to address geotechnical issues and obtain necessary approvals.
Monitor geotechnical aspects during construction, including foundation installation, earthwork construction, and ground improvement activities.
Develop and implement risk management plans related to geotechnical issues.
Ensure that all design activities are conducted in accordance with Parsons' quality management system and safety protocols.
Manage and control the geotechnical design budget and schedule.
Stay abreast of the latest developments in geotechnical engineering and promote the adoption of innovative technologies and techniques.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering. A Master's degree is preferred.
Professional Engineering registration (PE) or equivalent is required.
Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant portion of that experience in large-scale infrastructure projects.
Extensive experience in the design and analysis of foundations, retaining structures, slopes, and earthworks in complex geological conditions.
Deep understanding of geotechnical investigation techniques, laboratory testing, and data interpretation.
Proficiency in geotechnical design software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, LPILE, etc.).
Strong knowledge of international codes and standards (e.g., IBC, Eurocodes, ASTM).
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to manage and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
Experience working on projects in the Middle East is highly desirable.
Familiarity with BIM and other digital engineering tools is an asset.
Desired Skills:
Experience with deep excavations and tunneling.
Knowledge of ground improvement techniques.
Familiarity with seismic design and analysis.
Experience in managing geotechnical aspects of large infrastructure projects
