Job Description:
Parsons is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Design Manager specializing in Basement Design to join our team for the groundbreaking NEOM THE LINE project. The Senior Design Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing all design aspects related to the project's basement structures, ensuring their stability, functionality, and integration with the overall design. This role demands a deep understanding of complex below-grade construction, waterproofing, excavation support, and the ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the basement design team, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and ensuring quality control.
Oversee the development of basement design plans, including excavation support systems, foundation design, waterproofing, and structural design.
Analyze and interpret geotechnical data, structural requirements, and functional needs to develop efficient and cost-effective basement designs.
Direct the design of various basement structures, including but not limited to, multi-level basements, underground parking facilities, utility tunnels, and foundation systems.
Manage the preparation of design reports, drawings, specifications, and other deliverables related to basement construction.
Coordinate with other design disciplines (structural, civil, MEP, architectural) to ensure seamless design integration and resolve interface issues.
Liaise with the client, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to address basement design issues and obtain necessary approvals.
Monitor basement construction activities, including excavation, shoring, foundation installation, and waterproofing, to ensure compliance with design specifications.
Develop and implement risk management plans related to basement design and construction.
Ensure that all design activities are conducted in accordance with Parsons' quality management system and safety protocols.
Manage and control the basement design budget and schedule.
Stay abreast of the latest developments in basement design, construction techniques, and relevant technologies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering. A Master's degree is preferred.
Professional Engineering registration (PE) or equivalent is required.
Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in structural design, with a significant portion of that experience focused on the design and construction of complex basement structures.
Extensive experience in the design and analysis of deep excavations, shoring systems, and foundation systems.
Deep understanding of waterproofing systems, drainage design, and other critical aspects of below-grade construction.
Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000).
Strong knowledge of international building codes and standards (e.g., IBC, Eurocodes, ACI).
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to manage and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or building projects in the Middle East is highly desirable.
Familiarity with BIM and other digital engineering tools is an asset.
Desired Skills:
Experience with advanced excavation support techniques (e.g., diaphragm walls, secant piles).
Knowledge of ground improvement techniques relevant to basement construction.
Familiarity with the design of underground structures in challenging geological conditions.
Experience in managing the design of large, multi-level basements.
Knowledge of sustainability principles in basement design and construction.
