Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Quantity Surveyor to join our team! In this role you will get to manage all financial aspects of construction projects, including cost estimation, budgeting, procurement, and contract management. This role requires strong analytical skills, in-depth knowledge of cost management processes, and the ability to communicate effectively with project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
What You'll Be Doing:
Cost Estimation and Budgeting:
Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and overheads.
Develop and monitor project budgets, ensuring that costs are controlled and that projects are completed within the approved budget.
Work closely with project managers and other stakeholders to identify cost-saving opportunities and ensure efficient use of resources.
Contract Management:
Review and evaluate contract documents, ensuring that all terms and conditions are clearly understood and adhered to.
Assist in the negotiation of contracts and the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers.
Monitor the execution of contracts, ensuring compliance with agreed terms and timelines.
Cost Control and Financial Reporting:
Monitor and track project costs, including change orders, and ensure that any deviations from the budget are reported and addressed.
Provide regular reports to senior management and project teams on the financial status of the project, including forecasts and risk assessments.
Analyze and report on project variances, making recommendations for corrective actions as necessary.
Risk Management and Value Engineering:
Identify potential risks in the construction process, including cost overruns, and propose strategies to mitigate these risks.
Engage in value engineering processes to optimize the cost-effectiveness of construction projects without compromising quality or scope.
Work with the project team to assess alternative methods or materials to reduce costs and improve project efficiency.
Tendering and Procurement:
Prepare tender documents, including bill of quantities (BOQs), specifications, and drawings.
Evaluate bids from contractors and suppliers, ensuring the most cost-effective and suitable options are selected.
Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and negotiate favorable terms.
Measurement and Valuation:
Conduct site visits to measure and assess works, ensuring that work is carried out according to specifications and quantities.
Prepare interim valuations and final accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
Assess variations and prepare appropriate documentation for client approval.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Communication:
Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and financial objectives.
Provide advice and guidance on cost-related issues, including financial risks, cash flow, and contract issues.
Assist with dispute resolution, ensuring that any financial disagreements are handled professionally and promptly.
Project Support and Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including cost records, contracts, correspondence, and reports.
Ensure all financial aspects of the project are documented accurately and that records are readily available for audits or reviews.
Assist in the preparation of final accounts and ensure that all required paperwork is submitted in a timely manner.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry.
Proven experience in cost estimation, budgeting, and contract management.
Experience with tendering, procurement, and the preparation of BOQs.
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and cost control.
Excellent knowledge of construction contracts, including JCT, FIDIC, or NEC3.
Proficiency in quantity surveying software (e.g. CostX, BuildSoft, or similar).
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and assess project costs and make informed recommendations.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex cost data to senior management and clients.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
Professional qualifications (e.g., MRICS, RICS) are preferred.
Professional qualifications, such as MRICS, FRICS, or similar.
Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and its application to cost management.
Knowledge of project management software (e.g. Procore, Aconex).
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage relationships with contractors and suppliers.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
