Job Description:

We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented detail-oriented Project Engineer to manage design process, lead and coordinate the design activities for a major transport infrastructure project, focusing on rail, mobility solutions, and station designs. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality design solutions, and maintaining alignment with project objectives, technical requirements, and stakeholder expectations. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a proven ability to manage complex design processes in a collaborative environment.

The role extends to championing health, safety, and security, demonstrating Qiddiya values, and ensuring project schedules, budgets, and resources are effectively managed in collaboration with discipline leads, contractors, and stakeholders. The role will drive scope completion to agreed timeframes and budgets, proactively resolve risks and roadblocks, and maintain strong stakeholder engagement.

The position will oversee scope management, constructability, contract alignment, change control, and cross-functional coordination. It includes supporting procurement and commercial teams and implementing best practice project and design management processes.

What You'll Be Doing:

1.     Design Coordination:

  • Manage and coordinate the design development process across multiple disciplines, which includes stations, depots, rail systems and infrastructure, underground structures and other transport solutions (Bus, RTS, mobility).

  • Ensure that design deliverables are integrated, aligned, and meet project requirements, schedules, and budgets.

  • Facilitate design coordination meetings and workshops to resolve technical issues and ensure effective communication among teams.

2.     Technical Oversight:

  • Review and approve design submissions to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to design teams, addressing challenges and optimizing solutions, draw on subject matter experts where required.

  • Oversee the use of design tools and methodologies, including Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other digital platforms.

3.     Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as the primary interface between the design teams, contractors, and client representatives, ensuring alignment of design objectives and expectations.

  • Manage stakeholder inputs and feedback, incorporating them into the design process while maintaining project integrity.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations to stakeholders, highlighting design progress, challenges, and solutions.

4.     Quality Assurance:

  • Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of design deliverables.

  • Conduct regular design reviews and audits to identify and address potential issues early in the process.

5.     Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with design development, including technical, schedule, and cost risks.

  • Develop contingency plans to address potential design challenges and ensure project continuity.

6.     Team Leadership:

  • Manage a multidisciplinary team of designers and engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

  • Monitor team performance and provide regular feedback to ensure high levels of productivity and engagement.

7.     Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure all designs adhere to relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including rail and transport industry best practices.

  • Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in rail systems and station design.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in design management for infrastructure and / or transport projects, with a focus on rail sector.

  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of rail systems, transport infrastructure or station design principles.

  • Leadership: Proven experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and delivering complex infrastructure projects.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards pertinent to the discipline and project location.

  • Thorough knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems and design calculations.

  • Must be able to review and understand project documents for technical accuracy and quality to ensure adherence to project plan.

  • Proficiency in design and project management tools (e.g., AutoCAD, BIM, Primavera P6).

  • Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design including appropriate knowledge of CAD (both 2-D and 3-D) e.g., AutoCAD, MS Word and Excel for managing design reviews

  • Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic construction practices and the economics involved.

  • Proven track record of coordinating and delivering large scale projects.

  • A professional license from a recognized licensing or registration board.
