Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Principal Quantity Surveyor to join our team! In this role you will responsible for quantity take-off and cost estimation of engineering design elements to support budgeting, planning, and contract administration within the Engineering Department .
What You'll Be Doing:
Perform detailed quantity take-offs from engineering design drawings, specifications, and BIM models.
Develop and maintain comprehensive Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for all engineering disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical).
Prepare cost estimates and budget forecasts for design packages, scope changes, and value engineering proposals.
Review engineering deliverables to ensure alignment with cost plans and funding allocations.
Support the development of procurement strategies by providing quantity and cost data for tender packages.
Participate in technical evaluations of contractor bids and assist in contract award recommendations.
Provide input during design reviews to enhance constructability, cost efficiency, and compliance with project standards.
Maintain records of quantity changes and cost implications throughout the project lifecycle.
Develop and maintain an up-to-date cost database to align with market rates.
Mentor junior quantity surveyors and support continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
Perform any other job related duties as assigned.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline from a recognized university
Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in engineering quantity surveying, cost estimation, and design coordination.
Professional Qualifications and membership of RICS, CIOB, CICES, CIPS or another relevant Chartered Institute are essential.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
Strong understanding of engineering design processes, construction methods, and contract administration.
Proficiency in quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, Candy, or similar), AutoCAD, and MS Office Suite.
Familiarity with BIM tools and digital quantity take-off techniques is highly desirable.
Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills – both written and oral.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Sound knowledge and experience of pre contract cost management.
