Principal Design Engineer - Potable Water
Doha, Qatar
Parsons is looking for a highly talented Principal Potable Water Engineer to join our team. This role is focused on ensuring the sustainable and efficient use of water resources, covering all aspects of water supply, distribution, treatment, and environmental management. The Principal Potable Water Engineer will provide leadership and technical expertise in the planning, design, and delivery of water infrastructure projects. Key responsibilities include developing and managing water supply systems, treatment plants, transmission and distribution networks, and conducting transient analysis, as well as monitoring water quality and quantity. The role also involves leading multidisciplinary teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, and advancing sustainable water resource management practices.
What you will be doing:
- Lead the planning, design, and delivery of potable water infrastructure projects, including water supply, treatment, transmission, and distribution systems.
- Manage projects effectively, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, quality standards, and client expectations.
- Conduct feasibility studies, technical assessments, and design optimization to ensure cost-effective and sustainable solutions.
- Utilize BIM tools for infrastructure design, including network clash detection and resolution.
- Ensure compliance with QCS, KAHRAMAA standards, and approval procedures from relevant authorities.
- Perform water demand calculations, supply strategies, and reservoir/storage planning for large-scale projects.
- Develop designs for transmission pipelines, distribution networks, storage facilities, pump stations, hydraulic chambers, valve arrangements, and looping techniques.
- Apply principles of value engineering and contribute to project value improvement initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers, technicians, and project support staff.
- Review and approve technical reports, designs, drawings, specifications, and calculations.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, government agencies, and stakeholders to align project goals.
- Prepare design reports, layouts (plan & profile), BOQs, permits, and environmental impact assessments.
- Carry out concept, preliminary, and detailed engineering design for potable water networks and related infrastructure.
- Conduct design reviews and resolve technical issues during design, construction supervision, and post-contract phases.
- Perform site inspections to monitor construction quality and ensure compliance with approved designs.
- Promote sustainable water management practices, including water reuse, conservation, and integration of renewable energy.
- Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance across all project deliverables.
- Support submittals and NOC approvals with relevant authorities.
- Allocate project resources effectively, fostering collaboration, efficient team utilization, and high-quality delivery.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including BIM/CAD technicians, to meet project requirements and deadlines.
- Conduct project and client meetings as required.
What Required Skills You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in civil / mechanical / water / environmental engineering, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
- 15+ years of experience in water engineering project, with a focus on infrastructure design and resource management.
- Proficiency in hydraulic and hydrological modeling software (InfoWorks WS, Bentley, WaterCAD/WaterGEMS, water hammering, surge analysis, CFD modeling and Autodesk Civil 3D, Esri GIS Software’s)
- Strong knowledge of water treatment processes, distribution systems, and environmental regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience in value engineering and project optimization.
- Must be registered with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) in Qatar.
