This includes overseeing HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical services, ensuring that they meet all design, performance, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, project management experience, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, energy-efficient, and sustainable mechanical systems.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Mechanical System Design:
Design, specify, and oversee the installation of mechanical systems, including HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), plumbing, fire protection, and related building systems.
Develop detailed mechanical system drawings, schematics, and calculations using design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace).
Create system specifications, including equipment sizing, ductwork design, pump and pipe sizing, and system control requirements.
Ensure that mechanical systems meet the project’s requirements, are energy-efficient, and comply with relevant building codes and standards.
Project Coordination and Management:
Lead the mechanical design and coordination process on multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring the integration of mechanical systems with other MEP disciplines (electrical, plumbing, etc.).
Manage the mechanical aspects of projects, from conceptual design through to commissioning and handover, ensuring the project is completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications.
Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth project delivery.
Technical Support and Problem Solving:
Provide technical expertise and support throughout the design, construction, and commissioning phases of mechanical systems.
Address any design or installation issues, recommending solutions and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
Conduct site visits to inspect the installation and operation of mechanical systems and ensure proper implementation of designs.
Energy Efficiency and Sustainability:
Promote the use of energy-efficient mechanical systems and sustainable design practices in line with modern building technologies and green building standards (e.g., LEED, BREEAM).
Design systems that minimize energy consumption, reduce environmental impact, and promote sustainability.
Conduct energy analysis and simulations to optimize system performance and ensure compliance with sustainability targets.
System Testing, Commissioning, and Maintenance:
Oversee the testing and commissioning of mechanical systems to ensure they meet performance and operational requirements.
Prepare commissioning plans, procedures, and reports, and ensure proper documentation is in place for all installed systems.
Monitor the performance of installed systems and provide guidance on operational and maintenance requirements.
Regulatory Compliance and Standards:
Ensure that all mechanical systems are designed and implemented in compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
Stay up to date with the latest mechanical engineering technologies, codes, and standards to ensure the highest quality and efficiency of systems.
Prepare and submit reports and documentation for regulatory approvals and inspections.
Client Communication and Reporting:
Act as the primary technical liaison with clients, addressing their needs and concerns regarding the mechanical systems.
Provide regular updates on project progress, risks, and issues to clients and senior management.
Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and system specifications for clients and project stakeholders.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead and mentor junior mechanical engineers and technical staff, providing guidance, training, and career development opportunities.
Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment, ensuring efficient and effective execution of mechanical engineering tasks.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., LEED AP, PMP, or equivalent) is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 2-3 years focused on the design and management of MEP systems in the construction industry.
Proven experience in the design, installation, and commissioning of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial, residential, or industrial projects.
Strong experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
Skills & Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and energy management.
Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, HAP, Trane Trace, or similar tools.
In-depth understanding of local building codes, standards, and regulations related to mechanical systems.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address technical challenges in system design or installation.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:
Certifications: Professional certifications such as LEED AP, PMP, or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
Energy Efficiency Expertise: Experience in designing energy-efficient mechanical systems and incorporating sustainable design practices.
Advanced Knowledge: Familiarity with advanced HVAC technologies, automation systems (BMS), and emerging trends in building services.
Leadership Experience: Ability to lead teams, mentor junior engineers, and provide guidance on technical issues and project management.
