Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Medic to join our team! In this role you will get to plan, schedule, and manage training scenarios involving traumatic and CBRN exposure related casualty scenarios in a variety of training events and exercises.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Provides feedback and assistance on training scenario development regarding patient assessment, care, and decontamination in a CBRN environment.

• Assists training unit on selecting the appropriate use of man-portable medical devices necessary to enhance the efforts of approved treatments to improve clinical outcomes of multi-system traumatic and contaminated patients.

• Provides a period of instruction to support medical considerations and operations in a CBRN environment at the CCMD and TSOC level.

• During training events and exercises works with the organizational planners to develop the medical services and identifies locations of hospital and treatment facilities.

• Makes initial contact with hospital and treatment facilities prior to conducting site survey.

• Confirms primary and alternate hospital and treatment locations based on the type and severity of the injury.

• Provides onsite support to immediately respond to injuries and provide personnel care to the DoD Team on the ground.

• Finalizes the hospital site survey and MEDEVAC routes and landing zones as applicable.

• Confirms host nation evacuation methods and identifies safety precautions and considerations for use during execution.

• Conducts a communications rehearsal to ensure primary, alternate, and tertiary means of communication work properly and all parties know duties and responsibilities during MEDEVAC operations.

• Confirms ground truth information on hospital and treatment locations and disseminates grids/Lat/Long coordinates data as required.

• Identifies any known medical concerns in the region and provides input on mitigation protocols.

• Finalizes list of MEDEVAC related equipment required for the training exercise and inputs all data into a written site survey trip report document.

• Activities include but are not limited to training event facilitation, assisting in curricula design, training design and development, training plan construction, Program of Instruction (POI) construction, developing control cell instructions and guidance, performing training assessments, and conducting an After-Action Review.

• Act as an instructor for the  Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Advanced Course. This course provides both medical and non-medical SOF personnel with the skills necessary to detect, protect, decontaminate, and treat casualties in a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) environment.

• Participates in the Program of Instruction development for the CWMD Advanced Course annually or more, as required.

• Act as an instructor for the DoD Principles of Decontamination Course. This course is designed to provide personnel with the essential skills to conduct decontamination of personnel and casualties, with an emphasis on chemical and biological (CB) threat agents.

• Participates in the Program of Instruction development for the DoD Principles of Decontamination Course annually or more, as required.

• In support of assigned training events and exercises, conducts a medical capability survey (AKA medical site survey) to provide information about how US forces can coordinate with partner nations to leverage partners’ capabilities to deliver care to sick or injured US service members. Partner nation facilities could have capabilities that may be leveraged to care for US service members when US medical care is unavailable.

• Serve as a SME on the following:

  • Conducting training on casualty treatment and operations in a CBRN environment as well as clinical and planning strategies for multi-system trauma patients in a prolonged field care setting and to conduct training to recognize the signs and symptoms of CBRN agent exposure, treatment of contaminated soldiers, and decontamination.

  • Casualty treatment techniques and procedures that are based on doctrine, extensive research, and evidence-based medical and scientific studies.

  • applying the essential techniques of the Joint Trauma Systems (JTS) Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) MARCHE2 process.

• Maintain awareness of biological warfare agent detection equipment to include basic instrument maintenance, operational theory, and interpretation of instrument outputs / responses to both simulant and live agent biological challenges. Instruments will include currently fielded US DoD equipment (e.g. immunoassays, PCR analysis, and mass spectrometry equipment).

• Maintain awareness of chemical warfare agent detection equipment to include basic instrument maintenance, operational theory, and interpretation of instrument outputs / responses to both simulant and live agent chemical challenges. Instruments will include currently fielded US DoD equipment (e.g. M8 & M256A2 CDK, JCAD, RMX - Raman, FTX - FTIR, MX908 HPMS) and select nonstandard detection equipment (e.g. multi-gas - 4 gas detector w/ PID, colorimetric test papers and length of stain tubes).

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

• BS degree and 5 + years experience

• Experience preferred in developing, planning, and participating in US Department of Defense CBRNE and Special Operations training events or exercises.

• Nationally Registered and Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or Paramedic.

• Knowledge of chemical warfare and biological warfare agents, their synthesis, exposure routes, signs, and symptoms, and their mode of transmission.

• Understanding the basic concepts of radiation physics, radiobiology, and the mechanisms by which radiation causes damage to the human body.

• Experience as a US military active-duty medical professional.

• Experience as an instructor at a training command or in an operational unit’s training department, to include development and delivery of training curriculum with practical application of CBRN-related skills, to include operating in contaminated environment and employment of CBRN PPE.
