Job Description:
Parsons are seeking an experienced Field Engineer – Earthworks to supervise, coordinate, and inspect earthworks activities on a major airport runway and airfield development project.
This role focuses on excavation, embankment, subgrade preparation, and compaction works, ensuring compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and aviation authority standards. The ideal candidate will have 12 years of experience in earthworks or civil construction within large-scale infrastructure or airport projects.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Oversee site earthworks activities including excavation, filling, embankments, and subgrade preparation for runways, taxiways, aprons, and shoulders.
- Ensure earthworks are executed in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, and method statements.
- Provide technical guidance to site engineers, supervisors, and operators.
- Coordinate and review compaction tests, soil density, moisture content, and other geotechnical inspections.
- Ensure earthworks comply with ICAO, FAA, or local aviation authority requirements.
- Identify non-conformances and support corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with survey teams to verify cut/fill levels, slopes, and grading tolerances.
- Ensure proper benching, compaction layers, and alignment for subsequent pavement works.
- Coordinate with pavement, civil, wet utilities, and dry utilities teams to manage interfaces and avoid clashes.
- Liaise with consultants, contractors, and authorities to resolve site issues and technical queries.
- Prepare daily progress reports, inspection logs, and technical records.
- Support the preparation of as-built data and handover documentation.
- Maintain records for QA/QC review and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure all earthworks activities comply with approved HSE plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Monitor safe operation of heavy equipment and earthmoving activities.
- Ensure adherence to airside safety rules, permit-to-work systems, and FOD control.
What Required Skills You'll Bring;
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 12 years of experience in earthworks or site engineering.
- Experience in airport, airfield, runway, or large-scale infrastructure projects is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of earthworks construction, soil mechanics, and compaction techniques.
- Familiarity with aviation authority standards (ICAO, FAA) and pavement subgrade requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret geotechnical reports, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Proficient in MS Office and technical reporting.
- Strong coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience working in airside or operational airport environments.
- Knowledge of subgrade preparation for rigid and flexible pavements.
- Familiarity with QA/QC processes, NCR management, and inspection documentation.
- Experience with document management systems such as Aconex or similar.
- Relevant geotechnical or earthworks certifications are an advantage.
