Job Description:

Are you ready to help modernize and optimize air traffic control facilities across the National Airspace System (NAS)? Parsons is seeking a talented Facilities Model (BIM) Engineer to support the FAA in developing Building Information Modeling (BIM) solutions for Air Traffic Control Towers (ATC), Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCC), Terminal Radar Approach Control Facilities (TRACONs), and other critical aviation infrastructure.

In this role, you will create and manage full BIM models that encompass HVAC, electrical, structural, and other infrastructure systems to ensure FAA facilities meet operational, safety, and sustainability requirements. These models will support the FAA’s BNATCS program, enabling seamless integration of facility systems with NAS operations. If you’re passionate about BIM, facilities engineering, and delivering high-quality solutions for aviation infrastructure, we want to hear from you!

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • BIM Model Development - Create and maintain full BIM models for FAA facilities, including ATC towers, ARTCCs, TRACONs, and other aviation infrastructure. Model HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structural, and other infrastructure systems to ensure operational readiness and compliance with FAA standards. Develop 3D and 4D BIM models to support construction planning, facility management, and lifecycle analysis.

  • Facility Systems Integration - Ensure seamless integration of facility systems with NAS operations, including surveillance, communication, and automation systems. Collaborate with FAA stakeholders to align facility designs with operational requirements and environmental constraints. Define and manage Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for facility systems, including data exchange protocols and performance budgets.

  • Simulation & Analysis - Perform simulations and analyses to optimize facility performance, including energy efficiency, airflow, electrical load balancing, and structural integrity. Conduct trade studies to evaluate design alternatives and ensure compliance with FAA facility requirements. Use BIM tools to simulate construction sequencing, maintenance workflows, and fault tolerance scenarios.

  • Lifecycle Support – Develop BIM artifacts aligned to FAA Acquisition Management System (AMS) and Systems Engineering practices. Produce content for facility lifecycle phases, including design, construction, operations, and maintenance. Support facility upgrades and modernization efforts by leveraging BIM models for planning and execution.

  • Documentation & Reporting - Automate the generation of facility specifications, design documents, and compliance reports directly from BIM models. Provide engineering artifacts consistent with FAA standards and regulatory requirements. Present findings and model outputs to FAA stakeholders and support technology transfer to operational teams and vendor partners.

  • Collaboration & Mentorship - Mentor engineers and architects on BIM methodologies; run model reviews and stakeholder walkthroughs using BIM collaboration tools. Collaborate across NAS workstreams to ensure consistent modeling quality and bidirectional traceability.

Required Skills/Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Architecture, or related discipline; Master’s Degree preferred.

  • 10+ years overall experience. 5+ years of experience in facilities engineering or architecture, including 3+ years of hands-on BIM modeling experience using tools such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, or Bentley Systems. 3+ years of hands-on MBSE/SysML modeling experience using tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect, or Capella.

  • Proven delivery of BIM models for large-scale infrastructure projects, including gated reviews and lifecycle management.

  • US Persons required

  • Domain experience in FAA/NAS facilities, including ATC towers, ARTCCs, TRACONs, or other aviation infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with FAA facility standards, AMS phases (Concept & Requirements, Investment Analysis, Solution Implementation, In-Service Management), and typical JRC evidence.

  • Proficiency with BIM tools such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, Bentley Systems, or similar platforms.

  • Experience with energy modeling, structural analysis, and facility lifecycle management.

  • Knowledge of sustainability standards and practices, including LEED certification and energy efficiency modeling.

  • Exposure to FAA Systems Engineering Manual (SEM) and integration of facility systems with NAS operations.

Desired Certifications:

  • INCOSE CSEP/ESEP, PMI certifications, or BIM-specific credentials (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional).
