Parsons is seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist to join our team! In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that environmental regulations and policies are adhered to throughout the execution of sewerage, surface, and ground water networks project, monitor and assess environmental impacts, provide guidance on mitigation measures, and work with the team to maintain compliance with environmental laws and standards.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Monitoring environmental performance on-site during the construction of sewerage, surface, and ground water network projects, ensuring that all work adheres to environmental laws, regulations, and project-specific environmental requirements.
  • Conducting environmental site assessments to identify potential impacts related to excavation, dewatering, wastewater management, and other activities related to water network construction.
  • Implementing and enforcing environmental management plans, including waste management, pollution control, and water quality management during project execution.
  • Ensuring compliance with all local, national, and international environmental regulations, including guidelines for air, water, and soil quality standards for underground works and water networks.
  • Conducting regular inspections and audits on-site to assess environmental impact and compliance, particularly in areas such as waste disposal, air quality, noise pollution, and soil contamination.
  • Assessing the impact of construction activities on surrounding ecosystems, including soil erosion, sedimentation, and biodiversity in areas impacted by sewerage and water network construction.
  • Coordinating with project teams to ensure that environmental issues are addressed in the planning stages of sewerage, surface, and ground water network projects.
  • Providing environmental training for workers on site, raising awareness about pollution control measures, spill response procedures, and other key environmental management topics.
  • Reporting on environmental performance, documenting any non-compliance issues, and working with project managers to develop and implement corrective actions to mitigate environmental risks.
  • Reviewing project designs and construction methodologies to ensure environmental considerations are incorporated, including waste management and water quality management strategies.
  • Assisting in the development of emergency response plans for environmental incidents, including spill containment, waste disposal, and mitigation of hazardous material exposure.
  • Preparing environmental documentation and reports as required for regulatory submissions, including environmental impact assessments (EIAs), environmental monitoring, and compliance records.
  • Liaising with environmental authorities and regulatory bodies to ensure that required permits, approvals, and licenses are obtained for sewerage and water network projects.
  • Promoting environmental sustainability on-site by recommending and implementing eco-friendly practices and technologies that minimize environmental footprint during construction and operation of the water networks.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management or environmental compliance, with at least 3 years focusing on sewerage, surface, and ground water networks projects or similar infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of environmental laws, regulations, and standards related to construction, particularly those governing water management, waste disposal, and pollution control in water network projects.
  • Experience conducting environmental site assessments, including monitoring air and water quality, waste management practices, and assessing the impact of excavation and tunneling on surrounding ecosystems.
  • Proficiency in preparing environmental reports, permits, and other compliance documentation for sewerage and water network construction projects.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring tools and software to track compliance, report environmental data, and assess the environmental impact of construction activities.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental risk management techniques, including mitigation strategies for water quality issues, waste disposal, and controlling pollution at construction sites.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken, with strong communication skills for reporting, training, and liaising with stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to coordinate with other teams (such as construction, health and safety, and project management teams) to integrate environmental best practices into project planning and execution.
  • Proactive approach to identifying environmental risks and implementing solutions to mitigate those risks in the construction of water networks, sewerage systems, and drainage projects.
  • Experience in emergency response planning and managing environmental incidents, including spill response and waste management procedures.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Professional certification in environmental management (e.g., ISO 14001, LEED, or equivalent) would be an advantage.
  • Experience working in the Gulf region with familiarity of local environmental regulations, particularly in relation to water management, sewerage systems, and groundwater networks.
  • Familiarity with environmental sustainability practices, including eco-friendly construction methods and technology used in sewerage and water network projects.
  • Knowledge of environmental impact assessments (EIAs), including the ability to evaluate and mitigate potential environmental impacts specific to water network and sewerage projects.
  • Experience in conducting environmental training programs for site workers and project teams, raising awareness of environmental risks and mitigation measures.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize environmental issues based on project needs and timelines.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to engage project teams, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies in maintaining environmental compliance and sustainability.
