Job Description:

Parsons is seeking an accomplished Engineering Director to join our team for a major aviation program in the European Union (EU).

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Provides leadership and oversight for all design activities, and engineering efforts during construction on a major aviation program in the EU, ensuring the highest standards of architectural and engineering design excellence. The Engineering Director will be responsible for guiding multidisciplinary design teams, coordinating with stakeholders, and delivering airport design solutions that meet project goals in terms of capacity, quality, safety, sustainability, and innovation.

This position requires extensive experience as an architect, designer, or design manager on large international airport projects, including proven capability in leading design activities for the construction or expansion of airports with significant increases in passenger capacity.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and manage design development for all program’s assets, from concept through to detailed design and delivery.
  • Act as the program’s technical authority, ensuring integration across architectural, engineering, and systems design packages.
  • Oversee multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring alignment with project objectives, regulatory requirements, and international best practices.
  • Coordinate with client, stakeholders, contractors, and consultants to ensure all design activities are executed on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
  • Provide expert review, validation, and approval of all major design outputs, ensuring technical quality, constructability, and compliance with EU aviation standards.
  • Manage the design change process, evaluating impacts on cost, schedule, and functionality.
  • Ensure design solutions support program requirements for capacity increase, safety, operational efficiency, and passenger experience.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to design managers, architects, and engineers.
  • Facilitate design workshops and stakeholder reviews, ensuring buy-in and alignment across all parties.
  • Promote design innovation and sustainability, incorporating international best practices into airport infrastructure.
  • Ensure smooth handover of design packages into construction, and technical compliance during execution.
  • Ensure the design packages meet sustainability, energy efficiency, and net-zero carbon objectives in line with EU Green Deal principles.
  • Act as the technical advisor to the Program Director, Client and Key stakeholders.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s (Master’s degree preferred) in Architecture, Engineering, or a related design discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in positions such as senior architect, senior design engineer, or design manager on large international airport construction projects.
  • At least 5 additional years of senior-level experience beyond the 15 years, specifically managing design teams or projects in large international airport developments.
  • Proven experience as Chief Architect, Chief Designer, or Lead Design Engineer on projects involving construction of new airports or expansion of existing airports with increased passenger traffic capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of EU regulations, ICAO/EASA requirements and international aviation design codes, standards and regulations.
  • Native Polish speaker or Fluent in Polish (mandatory).
  • Excellent command of English for international coordination, design reviews, and reporting.
  • Professional registration (Architect, Chartered Engineer, or equivalent) highly desirable.
  • Experience working in EU or international design projects is preferred.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong leadership and management skills across multidisciplinary and multicultural design team.
  • Proven ability to oversee and integrate architectural, engineering, and systems design for major aviation projects.
  • Excellent technical design review skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage complex stakeholder environments and ensure design approval across client and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills in Polish and English.
  • Experience with EU regulatory frameworks and sustainability requirements.
  • Innovative mindset, able to implement state-of-the-art design practices for aviation infrastructure.
  • Ability to mentor, inspire, and build capacity within design teams.
