Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Construction Manager - Wastewater/Stormwater to join our team! In this role you will get to oversee the construction of wastewater and stormwater projects from start to finish, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, quality, and safety standards.
This role requires extensive experience in managing large-scale construction projects, leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of water infrastructure. The Construction Manager will ensure that all projects are executed efficiently, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable regulations.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Project Planning and Coordination:
Develop and implement construction plans, schedules, and strategies for wastewater and stormwater projects.
Coordinate with engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders to align project objectives, timelines, and resources.
Ensure that all aspects of the project, from site preparation to final delivery, are organized and executed efficiently.
Team Leadership and Management:
Lead and supervise construction teams, including contractors, subcontractors, and field staff, ensuring they are trained and adhere to safety and quality standards.
Foster a collaborative environment to ensure effective communication and teamwork across all departments.
Manage subcontractors, ensuring that all work is completed to specifications and on schedule.
Budget and Cost Control:
Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring that costs remain within allocated limits.
Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly progress, addressing any variances in cost, schedule, or quality.
Review and approve all project invoices, change orders, and claims for additional work or materials.
Quality Control and Compliance:
Ensure that all construction activities comply with relevant environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.
Implement and enforce quality control measures throughout the project to maintain high standards in construction.
Conduct site inspections and reviews to ensure all work meets the required specifications, quality standards, and environmental guidelines.
Safety and Environmental Management:
Develop and enforce a comprehensive health and safety program for all construction activities.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company sustainability goals.
Conduct regular safety audits and ensure proper documentation and reporting of any incidents or accidents on-site.
Scheduling and Timeline Management:
Develop detailed construction schedules and timelines, ensuring that work is completed on time.
Monitor project milestones and adjust resources and strategies as necessary to avoid delays.
Communicate any changes in the project timeline to stakeholders and adjust project plans accordingly.
Stakeholder Communication and Reporting:
Act as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and senior management regarding the status of the construction project.
Provide regular updates on project progress, potential risks, and mitigation strategies.
Prepare and present progress reports, quality assessments, and financial summaries to senior leadership.
Risk Management and Problem-Solving:
Identify potential risks associated with construction, including schedule delays, safety hazards, and cost overruns.
Develop risk mitigation plans and solutions to ensure the successful completion of projects.
Resolve issues quickly, including resolving conflicts between contractors, addressing unforeseen site conditions, or other obstacles that may arise.
Commissioning and Handover:
Ensure that all completed work is properly documented, inspected, and signed off.
Oversee commissioning activities to ensure that all systems are operational and meet client specifications.
Provide a comprehensive handover of the completed project to the client, including as-built drawings and maintenance manuals.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, LEED) are preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in wastewater, stormwater, or related infrastructure projects.
Proven experience in managing large-scale construction projects, particularly in water/wastewater treatment plants, stormwater management systems, or utility networks.
Strong experience with contract administration, budgeting, and managing project costs.
Skills & Knowledge:
Deep knowledge of wastewater treatment and stormwater management systems, including civil works, pumping stations, treatment plants, and pipeline installation.
Expertise in construction methods, contract management, and scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera, MS Project).
Excellent understanding of safety regulations, environmental compliance, and quality control procedures.
Strong leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with construction projects.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:
Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional), LEED AP, or OSHA Construction Safety Certification.
Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) or advanced project management software.
Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and green building standards.
Knowledge of international wastewater and stormwater construction standards and regulations.
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, including engineers, architects, and environmental specialists.
Experience in handling public-sector or large-scale infrastructure projects.
