Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Construction Engineer in MD/VA/DC to join our team! In this role you will manage activities encompassing the planning, technical direction, administration and construction of various projects.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Manage and ensure that construction of assigned work is completed in accordance with approved plans and specifications through frequent site inspections; perform substantial completion and final inspections of completed work
- Ensure that systems are constructed within schedule and thoroughly coordinated with operational departments to ensure minimal impact on operations
- Maintain and monitor the performance of the project against the KPIs established for both the Project Work and the Project Quality Plan and provide reports to the management team as required
- Review plans and specifications for construction purposes; advise various or required offices and consultants of required design changes, as applicable;
- Review inspection procedures for conformance with established procedures. Review and recommend approval of requests for payment from contractors and others for work in place
- Support and assist the project Safety Manager and the project Quality Manager in the enforcement of safety and quality compliance;
- Attend or conduct project coordination meetings and quality meetings with each discipline involved as needed to ensure effective project control
- Prepare project‐related correspondence to consultants, contractors, officials, and other agencies; prepares progress reports, issue reports, and recommendations to the project management team
- Complete a daily work report that outlines the work completed for the day;
- Must be able to work nights and weekends, including holidays;
- Must be able to pass a government background check;
- Must be able to work in confined spaces;
- Must have reliable transportation and possess a valid District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia driver’s license; and
- May be required to travel out-of-state to conduct manufacturer inspections of facilities and witness any factory acceptance testing as required by the WMATA Quality Manager or WMATA Task Manager.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years demonstrable experience in directing, managing, and administering communications related construction projects in an operational environment
- Preferred Project Management Experience
- Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, and regulations governing construction activities within the signatory jurisdictions of the WMATA compact;
- Knowledge of and practical experience in federal procurement regulations;
- Demonstrated experience participating in change order negotiations and claim determinations; and
- Completion of the WMATA RWP Certification Class, or ability to complete within 30 calendar day of Hire
- Requires a working knowledge of engineering and construction-related processes, as well as industry practices.
- Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, and a familiarity with other PC software packages typically associated with engineering and construction.
- Requires the ability to communicate clearly and interface effectively with a diverse group of professionals.
- Very good interpersonal skills to work with other departments in a tactful and effective manner.
- Very good written and verbal communication, analytical, problem solving, and risk assessment skills.
- Computer proficiency with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Very good attention to detail.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work flexible hours according to construction schedule.
- Experience with radio and cellular infrastructure installation highly preferred.
