Job Description:

Parsons has a career opportunity for an amazingly talented CBA - Environmental Technician V to join our team! In this role you will support various aspects of environmental compliance monitoring and investigations at the Faro Mine Remediation Project (FMRP).  

This role will report to Environmental Manager. This role is a rotational position (2 weeks on & 2 weeks off), 10 hours per day.  

This is a unionized position represented by USW Local #925. Terms and conditions of employment are governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Union membership and dues will apply. 

The hourly wage for this position is $37.78 

The FMRP, located in Faro, Yukon, is one of the largest and most complex abandoned mine remediation projects in Canada. Faro is located 4 hours northeast of Whitehorse, Yukon, and currently has a population of approximately 350 people. Furnished housing will be provided, you will be required to prepare your own meals during the shift on Site Flights to Whitehorse, travel between Whitehorse and Faro, and daily transportation to and from the Mine Site to Faro will be provided.  

What You'll Be Doing: 

  • Proficient in data collection, water quality monitoring, collecting samples, and geotechnical monitoring; 

  • Perform construction inspection, waste management, air quality monitoring, and spill response. 

  • Complete QA/QC of field work and documentation 

  • Compile environmental and geotechnical reports 

  • Lead yellow alert investigations and reporting 

  • Manage trackers and support daily planning and coordination 

  • Act as primary point of contact for field questions and observations 

  • Support the Environmental Manager’s responsibilities when they are unavailable. 

  • Review contractor/C&M documents and permitting; participate in contractor weekly meetings 

  • Create and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) 

  • Utilize EQuIS for data management and reporting 

  • Report any outstanding observations / findings from the field to Environmental Manager;  

  • Prepare field notes, checklists, observation logs, and photo logs for review;  

  • Use appropriate equipment to complete various monitoring tasks;  

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Environmental Manager.  

What Qualifications You Need: 

  • Post-secondary education (degree or technologist diploma) in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences, Biology, Geotechnical Engineering, Forestry, Hydrogeology, or related fields. Candidates with considerable training and experience may be equally considered. 

What Required Experience and Skills You'll Bring: 

  • Remote mine site field work experience preferred;  

  • Effective communication skill is a must, both verbally and written;  

  • Proficient computer skills  Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.);  

  • Self-motivated, and ability to work independently and as part of a team;  

  • A strong sense of Health and Safety, and attention to detail is required; 

  • Ability to lift up to 20 kg;  

  • Ability to comfortably work outdoors in various weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, extreme cold, etc. is a must; 

  • Valid class 5 driver’s license; and 

  • Experience with operating equipment including ATVs, snowmobile, and power boats is an asset.

This position is a part of the Faro Mines project which is a unionized worksite and therefore governed by the Faro Union Collective Bargaining Agreement. Union membership and dues will apply.
