Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Bridge Inspector Team Leader to join our team! In this role you will get to inspect in-service bridges of all types across the State of Texas.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts inspections/tests to determine if work has been done in accordance with contract specifications.
- Performs inspection/testing activities which may include the following:
- Civil and structural tests, such as soil compaction, moisture content, aggregation, graduation, concrete slump, air entrainment, concrete compression, lines and grades surveys, bolt torques, and concrete coring.
- Destructive and nondestructive tests on metals and other materials through magnaflex, dye penetrant, radiographic, tension/compression, paint thickness, and resistivity.
- Surveillance of underground piping to ensure tightness, bedding, and grade Continuous inspection of painting and insulation to ensure thickness and coverage continuity.
- Inspects and monitors piling installation to ensure location and bearing.
- Maintains project progress record files, quantity estimates, and daily diaries.
- Validates piping systems, including piping & instrumentation diagram (P&ID) checks and hydraulic or other pressure tests.
- Verifies reinforcing steel location before placement of concrete.
- Inspects electrical installations to ensure proper grounding, circuit integrity, and adherence to statutory and customer regulations.
- Provides general inspection on all construction labor and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship.
- Verifies equipment alignment and balancing operations.
- Reviews and recommends job safety practices; drafts safety reports.
- Prepares quality control reports and recommends changes to procedures.
- Documents nonconformance and participates in determining appropriate resolution.
- Administers welder qualification tests.
- Provides technical guidance to lower-level inspectors, as needed.
- May serve as Lead Inspector.
- Performs work in safe manner and is cognizant of public safety.
- Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Skills and Competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of public works contracts and construction related processes
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
- Effective math skills including advanced knowledge of engineering calculations, graphs, and charts
- Knowledge of computer applications with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Project Management Software, and internet search engines (like Google or equivalent)
- Ability to comply with project requirements as applicable based on client and industry standards
- Knowledge of English grammar and composition
- Thorough understanding of scheduling
- Ability to review progress pay estimates and extra work bills
- Effective organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize workload
- Ability to recognize hazardous work conditions and quickly remediate the situation(s)
- Ability to understand complex written and verbal instructions
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to mentor, guide, and lead others
- Ability to climb ladders, inspect work above ground, and work in confined spaces
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (i.e., lifting materials used for testing of concrete, AC, etc.)
- Ability to use good judgment and work with others
- Able to work outside in all weather conditions
- Available for up to 50% out of town travel (expenses paid)
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma and Associate's Degree in a technical discipline/construction related field, or equivalent work experience
- 10+ years of related experience in heavy construction projects
- Must have the following certifications, as determined by job assignments: National Highway Institute (NHI) training course # 130055, “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges” or # 130056, "Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers"
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline is preferred (specifically if a technical certification is not available)
- Certified in Highway Construction, Highway Design, and/or Highway Surveys is desired
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited university may be substituted for experience
- EIT License
- Experience with NBIS Bridge Inspections
- Experience with NTIS Tunnel Inspections
- TxDOT Precertified for 6.1.1 Routine Bridge Inspection Team Leader
- TxDOT Precertified 6.2.1 Complex Bridge Inspection Team Leader
