Job Description:

Parsons is one of the world’s largest transportation planning, engineering, and construction firms. We have an extensive portfolio of diverse transportation projects including rail and transit, road and highway, bridge and tunnel, and aviation infrastructure. Parsons expertise encompasses all phases of transportation engineering operations - from the initial planning stage through final design, construction, and commissioning.  Parsons has the people and power to move the world.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are looking for a Road/Highway Design engineer to perform a variety of engineering tasks by applying standard engineering techniques and analyses within the civil engineering discipline.  This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer, early in their career, to join an established team to work on many exciting new projects and proposals!

Our Highway design engineer will design horizontal and vertical geometry for highway and road projects, and will analyze cross sections, calculate super-elevations, grading vertical alignments and horizontal impacts for roads and highways in Texas.

Recent projects that our Richardson Texas staff have worked on include the IH 35E managed lanes reconstruction in the northern Dallas area, SH 183 managed lanes reconstruction in Dallas and Irving, VIA Metropolitan Transit bus rapid transit design in San Antonio, Honolulu new rail expansion program, widening of I-270 in St. Louis, Mexico City new airport design, SH 249 new highway construction near Houston, California High Speed Rail project, Seattle light rail extension, JFK Airport Design-Build Project, and multiple TxDOT safety enhancement roadway projects.

Parsons has ongoing projects with the Texas Department of Transportation through various districts which will expose engineers to a large variety of tasks located all over the state.  Some field review activities may be associated with the assigned tasks, so engineers are expected to be able to travel for these assignments.

Other upcoming work opportunities include large scale design-build proposals/projects located in Texas and in other states, plus civil engineering assignments associated with various transit projects and aviation projects in North America.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete numerous assignments for development of construction documents including drawings, specifications and estimates.
  • Assist with development of geometric design of highways and roads including horizontal and vertical geometry, cross sections, super-elevations diagrams, gore details, vertical clearance calculations and grading plans. May perform material quantity takeoffs, estimates and surveys.
  • Use design software and CAE/CAD applications to implement project designs
  • Develop and implement QA procedures to ensure quality control performed by others is properly implemented throughout the program and assigned project.
  • Provide input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and other Engineers working on the same project.
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree Civil Engineering
  • Some related work experience and/or internships preferred
  • In addition, an Engineer In Training (EIT) Certificate is preferred
  • Requires basic process engineering knowledge, as well as a working knowledge of CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering
