Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Assistant Resident Engineer – Structures/Bridge to join our team! In this role you will be involved in the design review and construction supervision of the project's structural works.
What You'll Be Doing:
Supervise and manage construction activities related to bridges and structural works (e.g., vehicular bridges, pedestrian bridges, culverts, retaining structures, and associated civil elements) on the island project.
Act as the Assistant Resident Engineer for structural/bridge works, supporting the Resident Engineer in administering contracts and overseeing site execution.
Ensure that all bridge and structural works are constructed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, codes, and contract requirements.
Lead and coordinate structural inspections, including foundations, substructures, superstructures, bearings, expansion joints, deck works, parapets, and approach structures.
Review contractor method statements, shop drawings, bar bending schedules, and inspection and test plans (ITPs)(ITPs) related to structural and bridge activities.
Monitor construction quality, including reinforcement placement, concrete pouring and curing, pre/post-tensioning (if applicable), structural steel erection, and corrosion protection systems.
Coordinate and witness material and structural tests (e.g., concrete compressive strength, rebar testing, pile load tests, weld inspections, coatings) and review test reports.
Work closely with geotechnical and marine specialists to ensure bridge foundations and structures are suitable for island/coastal conditions and soil/rock profiles.
Monitor progress of structural and bridge works against the construction schedule, identify risks and delays, and recommend mitigation measures.
Manage and close out non-conformance reports (NCRs)(NCRs), site instructions, and technical queries related to bridge and structural works.
Provide technical guidance to site engineers, inspectors, and survey teams to ensure accurate setting out and alignment of structural and bridge elements.
Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks, focusing on high-risk activities such as lifting operations, work at heights, marine access, and heavy equipment usage.
Support inspections for partial and final handover of bridges and structural elements, including snagging, punch lists, and verification of as-built documentation.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
Solid 12-15 years in construction supervision of bridges and major structural works, preferably as ARE or Senior Engineer.
Strong knowledge of bridge engineering principles, including structural analysis concepts, load paths, durability, and detailing requirements.
Practical experience with different bridge forms such as reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, steel or composite bridges, culverts, and associated structural systems.
Good understanding of relevant design and construction codes and standards (e.g., AASHTO, Eurocodes, BS codes, or local bridge/structural standards).
Effective communication skills to liaise with contractors, design consultants, client representatives, and internal project team members.
Proven ability to lead and manage site teams, including inspectors and junior engineers, in a high-pressure project environment.
Commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance, particularly in a remote island and coastal setting.
Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with basic project management and document control tools.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
Experience on island, coastal, or marine bridge projects (e.g., causeway bridges, jetty access bridges, boardwalk structures).
Familiarity with foundations in challenging ground conditions (e.g., piles in marine environment, rock socketed piles, caissons, ground improvement).
Exposure to advanced construction techniques (e.g., segmental bridges, launching girders, incremental launching, heavy lifting operations).
Experience using structural or bridge-related software for review and coordination (e.g., basic familiarity with STAADSTAAD, SAPSAP, or similar tools).
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to propose practical site solutions that respect design intent and safety requirements.
Flexibility and adaptability to live and work on an island project site, including willingness to work extended hours as project demands require.
