Job Description:

The Air Traffic Systems Engineer for System Transition provides leadership, technical expertise, and strategic guidance in planning and executing the migration of complex air traffic management systems within the National Airspace System (NAS). This role ensures that new technologies, operational concepts, and infrastructure are introduced seamlessly, with minimal disruption to ongoing operations and strict adherence to safety, performance, and regulatory requirements. The expert collaborates with FAA stakeholders, program managers, engineers, controllers, and industry partners to design, test, and implement transition strategies that balance innovation with operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage transition strategies for implementing new ATC systems, platforms, and technologies.

  • Conduct readiness assessments, safety evaluations, and risk analyses to ensure operational integrity.

  • Support system cutovers, phased deployments, and legacy system decommissioning.

  • Provide subject matter expertise on NAS systems, integration challenges, and lifecycle sustainment.

  • Facilitate collaboration between engineering, program management, and operations teams.

    · Monitor transition progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.

  • Advise leadership on operational impacts, transition readiness, and performance metrics.

  • Support training, stakeholder engagement, and change management to enable smooth adoption.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field and 12 years of experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of air traffic management systems, NAS architecture, and FAA regulations.

  • Proven experience leading system transitions, cutovers, or modernization efforts in safety-critical environments.

  • Strong background in systems engineering, integration, or operational program management.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.

Salary Range: $144,800.00 - $260,600.00
